BOB COCHRANE It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Russell Cochrane on March 6, 2015 at the age of 92. Bob passed away peacefully following a brief illness at Deer Lodge Centre with family by his side. Bob is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Helen Elizabeth Cochrane (nee Mogk); his children Ralph (Barbara), Ann (Stephen), Bruce (Jan), Scott (Marie) and Heather (Charles); his grandchildren Shannon (Garry), Keri (Eric), Janis (Kevin), Lisa (Corey), Lindsay, Michael, Elizabeth, David, Nicholas, Braden, Tyler and Carter; as well as ten great-grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his parents; his sisters Audrey, Thelma and Vivian; his brother Ian; and his grandson Neal. Bob was born in Aylesford, N.S. on March 2, 1923 and moved to Winnipeg as a young boy. In 1940 Dad enlisted in the army and was shipped off to England before it was discovered that he was only 17 and too young to serve in combat. He was immediately reassigned as an ambulance driver. Dad remained in the Medical Corps until the end of war. Shortly after returning from the war Dad took a course as a meat cutter and started his working life at the Jewel Grocery in Fort Rouge. This is where he met Mom who was working as a hairdresser next door. They married on June 4, 1947. Mom and Dad then managed and lived above a grocery store in St. James until 1950. After their first son was born they relocated to Kings Park in Winnipeg's south end where they eventually built the family home and where they raised all five of their children and made many friendships. While living in Kings Park Dad took a job with Charles Cribbs & Sons as a manufacturers' agent and later started his own business, Premier Sales, fulfilling the same role until retirement in the late 80's. Dad was an avid fisherman and curler and in his later years enjoyed friendly rounds of golf often using his creative' scorekeeping after a good game with family or friends. He spent many weekends with his family at his lake property over the years, first at Wendigo resort on Lake Lac du Bonnet and later at Arnold's tourist camp on the Lee River and Auglen Park on the Lee River channel. While Dad seemed to always be puttering' around with one project or another while at the lake he always found time to fish and enjoy the company of his family. Dad's sense of humour and knack for a good natured tease' brought many smiles to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private family service took place on Monday, March 9, 2015 with interment at Thomson "In the Park" Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Tower 5 at Deer Lodge Centre. Flowers are respectfully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation in Bob's memory. Thomson "In the Park" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
