Date of Passing: Mar 12, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHYLLIS EILEEN (THORNTON) WEIR With deep sadness we announce the passing of Phyllis Eileen Weir (nee Thornton) on March 12, 2015. Loving wife of the late Alexander Weir, mother and mother-in-law to Keith and Betty, Steven and Cathy, Sandra and Don, John and Sandi, proud grandmother to seven beloved grandchildren and 11 wonderful great-grandchildren. The wife a lifelong military man, she enjoyed living in and experiencing the cities and towns that the military brought her and her family to such as Toronto, Arlington, VA, St. Hubert, Baden Soellingen (4 Wing), Germany and Winnipeg. Each posting brought new friendships, cultures and memories that provided happiness and fulfillment to her life. Special memories from this time were the trips throughout Europe while stationed in Germany and social events with their many friends at the Sargent's and Warrant Officer's Mess. Phyllis worked for a number of years at Eaton's in Winnipeg and was an active member of the Eaton's Retirement Club. With special friend and companion Robert (Bob) Bernhardt, she enjoyed club activities such as bowling, lawn bowling and club lunches. The Crestview United Church was also an important part of her life both spiritually and socially. There was a period of 10 years where if you needed to see her you better make an appointment! Her final years were spent at the Village of Arbour Trails in Guelph. Our family's love and sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff that cared for her, put a smile on her face and made her laugh each and every day. You could see in her eyes how much she cared for you. For the past five years her daughter Sandra devoted her life to caring for her mother and best friend. Sandra's love and devotion made a meaningful positive impact to the quality of her life during this time for which the family is forever grateful. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
