Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMABEL VIOLA BETTERIDGE HENDERS (nee MAYERS) February 9, 1922 - March 12, 2015 On Thursday, March 12, Mabel passed away peacefully at the age of 93 years. Beloved mother of John and Bruce (Deb) and loving grandmother to Brittany, Nicole, and Katie, Mabel was predeceased by her precious seven-year old daughter Nancy Louise in 1970 and her husband Gordon Henders in 1997. Mabel was born in Sulphide, Ontario, was the 11th of 14 children, and the last remaining Mayers of her generation. She married Sydney Betteridge in 1955 in Toronto and together they moved to Winnipeg where they settled on Niagara Street to raise their family. She married Gordon Henders in 1979 and they lived happily together until his death in 1997. Mabel took good care of Gordon and Gordon and his family were very good to Mabel. Mabel was happiest when she was working and started her own business, 'Bett's Beauty Bar', in the late 1950s which she ran successfully until her early 1970s, and then in retirement, continued to take care of her clients in their homes for another decade. Mabel enjoyed staying busy, playing the horses with Gordon, gardening, puttering, and even taking the occasional jaunt to the lake, and although not a swimmer, she enjoyed fishing and was a very good sport. She visited her son John and his family in Florida on several memorable trips to see her granddaughter Nicole, and was delighted when her last granddaughter Katie was born. Mabel was a hardworking, kind, and giving person. She will be lovingly remembered by her family. She is finally at peace. "We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time". T.S. Eliot
