Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Laurie and I first met at U of M Teacher Training Summer School in 1959 and again in Tiger Hills School Division where we taught in Glenboro. We shared many good times as colleagues and as young marrieds. Our connections have been rare in our later years except for occasional school reunions. It is with sadness that we have just learned of his passing via the U of M alumni magazine. We extend our condolences to Monique, Danny and Collette and families. • Laurie was an amazing person. He was always friendly and helpful. He took time to listen to everyone. He knew how to treat people and mostly he knew how to talk to students. A big loss for everyone. My sincere sympathy to his family. Gerry Lynn Richard - Posted by: Gerry Lynn Richard (co-worker) on: Mar 30, 2015

  • I was very saddened by Laurie's passing. He was a kind and compassionate person. Working with him in the former White Horse Plain SD, Laurie was lots of fun. There were many sing alongs with Laurie playing his guitar at staff get togethers. I can always remember him having his cup of coffee and Robin's donut every morning at the office. He was an amazing individual and he will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family. - Posted by: Murielle MacMillan (Former Secretary) on: Mar 19, 2015

  • Very sorry to hear about your loss. I remember Mr. Tougas as our principal in St. Laurent. MB. He was a good person to us also when he sang 'Me and Bobby McGee'. My deepest sympathy to the family. - Posted by: dave normand (friend/former student) on: Mar 19, 2015

  • I met Laurie after we both retired and we golfed with the OFC. Both having had careers in education gave us some common ground but the hours out on the fairways, the greens and the clubhouses cemented our friendship. He was a true gentleman and I enjoyed his counterpoint to my running, offhand commentary on and off the course. I am truly saddened by his passing and I know he will be sorely missed by his friends and especially his family which he cherished. - Posted by: Ed Labossiere (friend) on: Mar 18, 2015
