EDITH MARJORIE ALBI (nee MANSON) May 26, 1923 - March 6, 2015 Marjorie Albi passed away in the early morning of Friday, March 6, 2015, with her daughter Andrea by her side. Memories of her kindness, gentle manner, and ready laugh will be cherished by all who knew her, especially her husband, Dr. Wilfred Albi, her children Andrea and Christopher, her son-in-law Brent Hurtig, and her adored grandsons Max and Liam. Marjorie was born in St. Boniface in 1923, the eldest daughter of George and Edith Manson. She grew up in a close-knit family in Norwood, surrounded by numerous uncles and aunts and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Doreen Luke, and her two dearest friends from youth, Helene Deniset and Thelma Lee. Her brother Russell Manson (and wife Bernice) of Victoria and sister Shirley Phizacklea of Winnipeg survive her. She also leaves to mourn Dr. Frank and Elaine Albi, Zoe Albi, and Florence Albi and children, as well as her beloved nephews and nieces Garth Manson, Russell and Kevan Luke, Sherrill, Diane, Alanna and Krista Phizacklea, and Frank, Carla and Christina Albi. She will also be greatly missed by her goddaughter Debbie Lee. Marge trained as a RN at the St. Boniface Hospital. She was an outstanding nurse who helped countless families with her expert and compassionate care. While working at the St. Boniface Hospital in the early 1950s, she met a young intern, Dr. Wilfred Albi. They married in 1954. It was her loving support and her understanding of the demands of the medical profession that allowed him to build a large practice as a family physician at the St. Boniface Clinic. She also embraced her husband's Italian heritage, converting to Catholicism and learning how to make classic Italian dishes. She was also known for her baking, especially her delicious Christmas shortbread and lemon tarts. Wilf and Marge established a home in Armstrong's Point, where they raised their children and resided for almost 50 years. She enjoyed attending plays at the Manitoba Theatre Centre and sitting in the shade at the family cottage at Twin Lakes Beach. Above all, she loved the company of her family and friends. Marge was a truly wonderful and devoted mother. Through quiet example, she taught her children the importance of treating all people with kindness and respect, of maintaining high moral standards, and of smiling through life's difficulties. After her own children left home in the 1980s, she volunteered at Villa Rosa to look after the babies of young, single mothers. In more recent years, she took great delight in her two grandsons, Max and Liam, who will miss their Nana greatly. Andrea and Christopher would like to thank a few special ladies who helped our mother greatly these past few years. First, Auntie Zoe took care of so many essential things with incredible competence and generosity. Debbie Lee visited Marge frequently from Calgary and gave us the benefit of her extensive knowledge of geriatric care. Gwen Hagyard, a volunteer at the West Park Manor, provided kind companionship and continues to help our father. Finally, Joanne Eilers, who knew our mother at Villa Rosa years ago, began to visit her almost daily when she learned that Marge needed assistance. We are profoundly grateful for such wonderful friends. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4588 Roblin Blvd. in Charleswood, with Msgr. Maurice Comeault officiating. To honour Marge's memory, please consider a donation to Villa Rosa Inc., 784 Wolseley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 1C6.
