DORIS AILEEN MACKENZIE November 30, 1921 - March 16, 2015 Doris passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre, in the early hours of Monday, March 16, 2015, at the age of 93 years, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Left to forever remember Doris are her son, Ken MacKenzie (Dale) and granddaughter Lisa MacKenzie (Shane Cluff). She was predeceased by her mother Doris Anne Cucksey (Riddell). Dode, as those closest to her called her, was born in Winnipeg and spent much of her childhood at Cucksey's White Lake Camp, her parents' tourist resort in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. In 1940, Doris married Ken J. MacKenzie and in 1941, son Ken Jr. was born. Upon Ken Sr.'s return from the Second World War, Doris and Ken Jr. followed him across the United States as he pursued his professional hockey career. In 1946 Doris and Ken built and developed Big Whiteshell Lodge, and they later divorced in 1960. Doris subsequently remarried and spent many years in Flin Flon, Toronto and Thunder Bay. She returned to Winnipeg in 1971 upon the death of her companion and worked various retail jobs. In the late 1970s Doris became a homemaker for son Ken and his daughter Lisa. She later moved to Chilliwack, British Columbia for a short period and then returned to Winnipeg where Doris lived for many years on her own in apartments on Edgeland and Boulton Bay. She loved cats, candies, convertibles and dancing to the music of the big bands. Fashion was Doris' passion and even in her 90s, she was never afraid to make a style statement. In compliance with Doris' wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. A private family memorial service in celebration of Doris' life will be held at a later date. A special note of thanks to Louise Millier, Doris' friend and care "angel" for the kindnesses provided to Doris and the family over the past few years. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, personal support workers and staff of Riverview Health Centre for the care and support given to Doris during her recent residence there.
