DOREEN HARRISON (nee GIESBRECHT) April 3, 1938 - March 13, 2015 It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Doreen Harrison, loving mother, sister, grandma, aunt and friend. After battling her bout of cancer Mom peacefully passed away surrounded by her family's love. She was predeceased by her husband Roy, parents Abraham and Mary, sisters: Sue, Ann, Verna, Edna and Elsie, and brothers: Ollie and Jake. Mom is survived by daughters: Mary Lynne Mancinelli and Barbara Jean and David Simpson, grandchildren: Nicole, Richard, Emily and Lucas, and brothers: Alvin and Carole, Ray and Jan, and Bob and Doreen, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and very good friends: Kay, Dorothy and Denise. Mom was born and raised in Morden, MB, the seventh of 11 children. At the age of 16, she ventured out into the workforce, landing a job at the Canadian Wheat Board in Winnipeg. It was here she met her lifelong friends of over 60 years, Kay, Dorothy and Denise, whom she cherished dearly. This is where her love of downtown Winnipeg began. She married Roy in 1966 and began her journey into motherhood. As a family tradition, most of the Giesbrecht families made their way to Morden on Sunday, every September, for a huge family picnic. Mom was well known for her chicken legs and potato salad that became the family favourites. She had often hosted the old Boxing Day gatherings where families had once again gathered in unity. After making North Kildonan their home, Mom returned to the work force as a devoted home care worker. She made many friends working for 35 years before retiring last year at the age of 75. Mom enjoyed many things in life such as: collecting plates, Royal Dalton dolls, stamps, coins, crosswords and puzzles. Her favourite pastimes were "The Royal Family", her love of "shoes" and all things "Eaton's". She was always knitting cat blankets for the Winnipeg Humane Society. Mom cherished many great times with her brothers and their families: Hillside Beach, Grand Beach, Palm Springs, "Happy Hour" and her dream trip to London, England. Mom was very proud and loved her four grandchildren dearly. She spent as much time as possible with each one. She was extremely proud to see each one graduate! The family would like to thank Dr. Kumar, Rose and all the staff at CancerCare and Dr. Tunovic and all the staff at the Concordia Hospital. Mom was a firm believer in giving back. She supported many charities over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favourite charity, The Winnipeg Humane Society in her honour. A private service has taken place. Mom you will forever be missed but never forgotten, We Love You xoxo Reunited once again with your beloved Flippy.

Best sister-in-law I could of had. As mentioned loved those happy hours as we did having them with her. We will miss her so much. She would always say when you go away I miss that little knock at the door and there were many by Ray and myself. She was always happy to see us and receive our phone calls from down south. Although I did not know Mary's mother, she must have been an amazing lady to have such a caring, kind and positive daughter. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Marilyn Nowak (Friend of Mary) on: Mar 22, 2015
