SHARON HIRT After a short battle with cancer, Sharon Hirt, 67, of Ladysmith, BC, passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 10, 2015, at the Nanaimo Regional Hospital surrounded by her soul sisters. Sharon was born in Winnipeg to Sam and Pearl Hirt (deceased). She graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba. Shortly after graduation and travel overseas, she moved to Prince George, BC where, among other things, she owned and operated a small book store. She subsequently moved to Vancouver Island and found her perfect home that overlooked the Strait of Georgia. During her close to four decades on the Island, she worked as a social worker, psychotherapist and an integrative body/mind therapist. Passionate about empowering the vulnerable, Sharon was one of the founders of Haven House, assisting abused women and children. She also worked in palliative care with Hospice organizations and in trauma recovery with First Nations communities throughout the Island. Mourning her passing are her brother and sister-in-law Ben and Lil Hirt, her niece Kim Hirt (Jerry Rubin), her great nieces Rachel and Bina Rubin, her many cousins in Canada, U.S. and Israel, as well as her close friends and colleagues. A celebration of Sharon's Life was held at Blue Heron Park, south of Nanaimo, on February 14, 2015.

I remember Sharon when she came to spend couple of weeks with us in Israel around 1960 and I started to teach her Hebrew. She was very serious about it. Then distance kept us apart, she is in BC and we moved from Israel to Canada in 1985 but still far away. We all miss Sharon my dear cousin, and remember her as wonderful person. - Posted by: Ami Peleg (Cousin) on: Mar 22, 2015

What a lovely tribute to Sharon. There is so much about her life and passions that we didn't know but are not surprised. Sharon always had a special place in my heart and our last visit together in Winnipeg is even more memorable now in retrospect, since it was our last time together. - Posted by: Hindy Hirt (cousin) on: Mar 21, 2015
