Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryION PARRISH December 27, 1952 - March 22, 2015 After a life lived fully and happily, our gentle giant passed away. He survived bladder cancer and its recurrences for 27 years with fortitude and attitude. lon loved Debbie and Kaitlin and Rene and Vivienne and Sadie and his family. He enjoyed everything techie that required attachments and programming and snowmobiling with his longtime friends of the boys club', especially Bob and Glenn. He liked watching The Abyss, Bones and China Beach, reading Tom Clancy books, listening to The Doors, eating barbeque steak and mushrooms and cherry strudels. He cherished cuddling with Vivienne curled into his lap and reading her the stories Looking for Lisa' and Lowly Worm' and was happy to get to know his new granddaughter Sadie. He looked forward to relaxing at the cottage at Traverse Bay and puttering in the garage or riding his ATV in the bush. He loved inventing new uses for gadgets or gizmos, controlling the remote to the TV and being a Poppa and Dad. Ion liked swimming in the ocean at Playa del Carmen and drinking scotch on the beach with Debbie. He enjoyed feeding his squirrels and bunnies on their daily visits. He spent time reading instruction manuals, looking through Canadian Tire ads and catalogues. He was excited to help Rene, Gilles, Joe and brother Ernie build the new house. He was proud seeing Kaitlin become a happy, beautiful, independent woman and mom. Ion loved dancing with Debbie to the music of the 1960s and 1970s (and listening to her sing!). He looked forward to daily chats with Ernie, Jerry and Dick. He loved being a home visitor for new urostomates of the Winnipeg Ostomy Association (WOA). If you called Ion for anything he was always willing to help. The last eight years were rough as bladder cancer reoccurred four times and took his bladder and prostate, then one kidney and finally infected the other. He was a survivor to the end. Special thanks to urologist Dr. Cho, oncologist Dr. Gingerich and the caring staff of McCharles CancerCare, Palliative Care, Home Care, Grace Hospital and doctors' offices. Thanks also to the caring and compassionate staff at Riverview Health Centre during the past five weeks including Dr. St. Godard and Dr. Garcia. Ion will be missed by his brother Ernie (Dorothy); sisters-in-law, Lynne (Jerry), Janice (Dick), Barb; nephews and nieces, Stewart (Lynn), Laureen, Rob, Ryan (Colette), Stacy (Casey), Blair, Jason, Melissa, Nelrene (Fredric), Jodene, Aaron (Karen;) great-nephews and nieces, (Cassandra, Cole, Harlee, Ryder, Ryker, Greta and Eddie); and cousin Brian (Vicki) and his good friends Bob and Shirley, Glenn and Alice, Gilles and Yvette, and Kay. He will be missed most deeply by Kaitlin, Rene, Vivienne and Sadie, and his love, Debbie. Donations in his memory can be made to the WOA or the Grace Hospital. As per Ion's wishes, a private celebration of life will be held. Tell someone you cherish that you love them or buy them flowers. Debbie and Kaitlin and family, I am sorry to hear about Ion he was a great man and he will be missed. I worked with him for 10 years and it was the best time I had working at the Winnipeg school division number one. I still remember all the times that he would have the whole school smelling like bacon and eggs for his lunch because that's what he always eat and enjoyed it. I learned a lot from Ion over the years, taught me how to do my job and he taught me how to interact with the staff and me and the kids. I remember all the times that him and I used to sit there and just talk about everything about his time at the cabin that he loved and being with you Debbie and Kaitlyn. He was the best bossthat I've ever had and will ever have. He will be missed in my eyes . All the best to you Debbie and Kaitlyn and family in this time of grief - Posted by: George Lohnes (We work at Prairie Rose for 10 years ) on: Mar 30, 2015

27 years! That Dance carried on for much longer than it might have. As Life partner, sole mate, father, grandfather, friend ..... Ion was so loved, and will be much-missed. We appreciate the sentiments expressed and learning more about Ion.... e.g. that he was a techie, who liked to read Instruction Manuals ... and understood them!??!. "Life Partner" ... go easy and listen for the music Debbie, the connection is still there. Ion will always be with you, Katlin, et al - a part of who you were, who you are, and who you will become. Hallelujah! It's a gift to have known him. Hugs & Peace, Noreen & Glenn - Posted by: Noreen & Glenn (Friends) on: Mar 28, 2015

Debbie, Kaitlin and family.....I am so sad to hear of the passing of Ion. I remember the struggles he was having with his health years ago. In saying that, he never complained and was such a beautiful gentle giant. I can, with fond memories, still remember that awesome smile, him proudly driving around in his all terrain vehicle. His quick willingness to always help one of his lake friends, no matter how easy or difficult the task. Without a doubt...... Heaven has gained a very special HUSBAND, FATHER and FRIEND.... Gentle Hugs to his family. Judie and Victor Park - Posted by: Judie and Victor Park (Traverse Bay Friend) on: Mar 25, 2015
