Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ISAAC DOERKSEN October 8, 1958 - March 21, 2015 It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts that the Doerksen Family announces the sudden passing of our dear brother John, on Saturday March 21, 2015. John was predeceased by his mother Lilliane Doerksen and by his nephew Mathew Doerksen. Left to mourn his passing is John's father Isaac Doerksen; his brothers, Leonard (June), Garry (Marlene), Ken (Sharon); his sisters, Diane (Peter), Bev (Rick), Lorraine (Dave), Marie and Darlene. John will also leave to mourn many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a very very special daughter Alexa. John was born in St. Boniface and his zest for life began early. He was born three months premature weighing in at 3 lbs. and 3 ounces and spent the first six months in an oxygen incubator. Johnny had a fighting spirit and was loved by all who knew him. Johnny was also a hard worker and went to work at the Dari Whip at the age of 13 and loved and was loved by his Greek bosses. John was known by his incredible memory, rarely getting an order mixed up. John loved his work and made many friends at the Whip. Unfortunately John's health failed him and he had to give up working early in life. Johnny was a caring and generous man who would give you his last dollar or the shirt off his back. Johnny loved to make people laugh and he had a great sense of humour playing tricks or jokes on anyone or else do a stand up comedy routine. A celebration of John's life will be conducted on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Norwood Legion located at 134 Marion Street. All are welcome. Johnny's final resting place will be at the Glenlawn Memorial beside his beloved mother Lilliane. John will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Sha-va Johnny.

We are so very sorry to hear of Johnny's passing. We have so many childhood memories of all of us kids growing up together on Kavanagh and Giroux Street and it was always nice to see Johnny at the Whip whenever we were back in Winnipeg. Our thoughts are with you all during this very difficult time. - Posted by: Barry & Lori Ziemski (Childhood Neighbours ) on: Apr 04, 2015

My family and I are in Ottawa now but I grew up in the Archwood School area. We happened onto John's passing. Our sincere condolences. We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Everybody knew John, better known to us as Johnny. I always enjoyed kibitzing with Johnny - he had a great sense of humour and was a real character. He was always happy, like Garry - I loved their spirits. We used to get back to Winnipeg fairly often and see Johnny at the Whip. It was nice to see him - he was St. Boniface somehow. He always remembered Micki and I and said a nice hello. I went to school and played hockey with Garry (one of the best) and knew the Mr. Doerksen (Isaac, because he was one of the few parents that ever came to their son's games back then) and crossed paths with Leonard. Miss those days. I want to say a nice hello to Mr. Doerksen, Leonard and especially Garry. Take care Doerksen family; our prayers are with you. Our condolences to the family for your loss. Johnny always had a smile for us and would keep us posted on family stuff that went on as we moved out of town years ago. The whip sure will not be the same without him. RIP John - Posted by: Bruce & Phyllis Rondeau (Friends) on: Mar 31, 2015

Johnny who was born the same year as I was full of mischief as a child but became a very considerate and kind man. He was nice, friendly and asked about how family was doing every time I went to the Dari-Whip. My sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Helen Oleszko (Neighbour and Dari-Whip customer) on: Mar 29, 2015

Lenard and Family, Am so sorry to hear of your loss. One could always count on Johnny to have a smile and conversation if he wasn't too busy while you waited for your food. Never could figure how he had such a fine memory. Thinking of you all. Reva - Posted by: Reva Hansen(McNaughton) (Frien of brother) on: Mar 29, 2015

Just yesterday I was talking about John and his memory at the Whip. We were always amazed at his ability to remember all the orders that came in at lunch hour. He was a tremendous employee. May you rest in peace John. My heartfelt condolences to all his family. - Posted by: Betty Morrison (customer at dairy whip) on: Mar 29, 2015

I was so sorry to hear about "Johnny" as we called him. There are so many funny stories that I could tell about him from school to living a few doors down. When he started working at the "Whip" there was never a time that he did not ask how I was, how my parents were and how were my sisters doing in Alberta. May his family find peace and comfort. - Posted by: Catherine Drennan (Poersch) (Neighbor) on: Mar 28, 2015

My deepest condolences for your loss. I have wonderful memories of Johnny growing up. My favourite is when "The boys" grew out of the tree house, and it was the next in line "The girls" time. We were sitting in the tree house thinking about all the things we were going to bring in and saw Johnny running down the path. We were so scared that 2 of us practically jumped off, I fell all the way down. When he saw that he came up to me and asked me if I was alright. Always a big smile when we saw each other at the "Whip". Big squishes to you all of you..my thoughts are with you. Colleen - Posted by: Colleen Normand (Poersch) (Childhood friend) on: Mar 28, 2015

So sorry for the loss of your brother and a neighborhood family member, he was always so polite and respectful when I saw him at the whip, he would always ask how my sisters were doing and commented on the health of our parents.
