Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. IHOR ANTON GALARNYK (DOC) Dr. Ihor Anton Galarnyk (Doc), aged 88, died on March 23, 2015. He was born on June 6, 1926 in the town of Pasichna (Ivano-Frankivsk) Ukraine, to Dmytro and Anna Galarnyk. Doc and his surviving family escaped the Second World War, immigrating as refugees to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. There he simultaneously learned English and restarted his medical studies at the University of Manitoba. On his first day in Winnipeg, Doc met the love of his life, Genya (Jennifer) Lechman. They married twice, in 1951 and 1952. Four years later, they moved their young family to Plain, where Doc practiced general family medicine until his retirement in 2006. His practice included his private medical clinic in Plain and staff positions at Sauk Prairie Memorial, St. Mary's, Madison General, University, and Reedsburg hospitals. He thoughtfully and lovingly provided medical care for thousands of patients over his career. Throughout his life Doc made many trips back to Ukraine where he helped introduce the practice of American-style family medicine. Doc and Genya have eight children: Roxanna (Leo), Ihor (Karen), Danylo (Donna), Christopher, Timothy, John, Dorianne (Richard) and Paul. They have 12 grandchildren: Nicholas, Kalena, Taylor, Gregory, Andrew, Steven, Victoria, Tessa, Michael, Augustus, Samuel and Mason. Doc's father, mother, sister, and brother preceded him in death. A celebration of Doc's life will be held at St. Luke's Church on Friday, June 5, 2015 beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception. The family would like to thank the staff of Maplewood Village, Maplewood Nursing Home, Agrace HospiceCare, Father Mike Resop and Dr. Jeffrey Collins for their exceptionally compassionate care, and all of the wonderful friends who wished Doc well through his final illness. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make contributions to the Plain Swimming Pool Fund or to any nonprofit health organization. I have fond memories of travelling by car from Winnipeg, MB to Plain Wisconsin as a young boy in the early 70's with my family (the Rozumnyj's) every summer and spending time with the Galarnyk's. It was the hi-light of our summers and to this day I think back at how much those trips influenced my life today. The beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright designed house, clinging to the rolling hills of Wisconsin, which was made a home by the loving family that occupied it......though I didn't realize it at the time, inspired me to pursue the world of interior design. Dr. Galarnyk and my recently departed father, Jaroslav, I am sure, are now reminiscing together their many years of companionship. Vichnaya-Pamyat.
