BURTON ROY RUSH October 5, 1949 - March 25, 2015 It is with a deep sense of sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Bud (Buddy). Lovingly missed by his only daughter Tracy Jane Jung (Dan) and his only grand-daughter Abby. He will also be missed by his sisters and their families, Lee (David) Little, Becky (Dave) Henry, Bonnie (Pierre) Glawson, as well as his many friends in and around Oakbank. He was predeceased by his father Mervyn Rush in 1971 and his mother Rae in 2005. Burton Rush was born in Neepawa, but moved to Winnipeg where he grew up and went to school in St. James. During those years, Bud was very involved in hockey. At 19, he was named MVP for the St. James Canadian Hockey Team. During this time he met his first wife Jane. He was also drafted by the Los Angeles Kings hockey club and went to their training camp in Barrie, Ontario, where he met some of his hockey idols. Unfortunately, his professional hockey career shortly ended because of a detected heart murmur. He went on to marry in 1970 and his only daughter (Tracy) was born in 1971. The marriage ended and he went on to pursue a career as long distance moving van driver for over 40 years. He married Adele Hall during this time. His driving led to an honorable award of 6.6 million collision free kms., as well as the Provincial and National Driver of the Year Awards in 2008. He and Adele lived in Grunthal, Winnipeg, Toronto and ultimately Oakbank, where he lived at the time of his sudden death. Bud touched many lives and had many friends in this community and will be missed dearly by all of them. Bud would always offer a helping hand to anyone needing help. He also served on the Springfield Volunteer Fire Dept., volunteered many late hours grooming the skidoo trails, and most recently became known as the bus driver of the community "Chicken Bus". A tribute to Bud's life will be held at Kelly's Bar and Grill (formally OBB) at 520 Main Street in Oakbank on Wednesday, April 1, from 1:00 p.m. to Happy Hour. All those that knew Bud are invited to come and share stories and celebrate his life.

  • Our deepest condolences to Bud's family. Bud truly did think of others. During 2 of our winter storms Bud saw me trudging through the deep snow past his home. It was around 6 am, and he knew I was on my way to work at Kinplace. Bud was shoveling his driveway and called out to me, made sure I was warm in his truck and drove me to work and insisted I call him after my shift and he would drive me home. Thanks for your kindness Bud, rest in peace. Lorraine & Ken Turchen ... - Posted by: Lorraine & Ken Turchen (friend) on: Apr 02, 2015

  • Bud, you will be missed by pretty much all of Oakbank and remembered always as a kind, incredibly funny and caring person. You were one of the strongest men that I have ever met, yet gentle, soft spoken and caring at the same time. I will treasure my memories of you and will always smile when I remember some of those hilarious jokes that you would share, one after another! I have never before, and likely will not ever in the future, know anyone that just never ran out of jokes and funny stories! I am grateful and it was a privilege to have had the opportunity to know you. Thank you. <3 To the family, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you come to terms this very sudden and tragic loss and this most difficult grief journey. I know that in time, when the pain lessens, you will all have such wonderful stories and memories to share. Bud left an amazing lifetime of memories for his loved ones and friends to treasure forever. - Posted by: Judy Dunn (Friend) on: Mar 29, 2015

  • Oh my papa. I will never forget our life long memories. You were the only person I could call dad. The only man who told me I was more beautiful than life itself. You were the only person who believed in me when the whole world didn't. You made me feel as tho I was the only one in the room when I walked in. You loved my as your own. You protected me when I needed protection and I know you will guide and watch over me for all the years to come. Our countless road trips, sleepovers, dinners and birthdays. Life will not be the same without you papa. Your little Issy will never forget you. Your memory will live on long and strong in our family. You were ours too. We loved you till the last minute and will love you till our creator asks for us to come home. I can not wait to be with you in heaven. I will miss you more than anyone with a heart beat. The pain cuts deep. I know how much you loved me and Issy, and I promise you I will continue to make you proud. Not a day went by that we didn't talk. I hold the sound of your laugh on my answering machine dear to me. The videos with your contagious laugh will play every day in my home. Papa, till we meet again, please know you were our hero. My papa bear, my superman. I love you so much forever and ever. Be free from pain now, and suffering. Rest easy, and let the sun shine. All my love, always and forever. I love you. - Posted by: Chantell Smyth (Papas little lady) on: Mar 28, 2015
