FREDERICK (TONY) RYMAN It is with profound sadness that on March 25, 2015 Fred, known by family and friends as Tony, passed away at home surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his parents Jean and Fred. He leaves to celebrate his life: his wife Heather, his children Jennie (Kyle), Jon (Tracy), Carrie (Dan), and Scott (Elizabeth); his granddaughter Mikayla; his dogs Kobe and Bennie; and his granddogs Rocky, Dozer, Maverick and Goose. Tony leaves his sisters Dolly and Carol and their families, and cousin Lloyd (Sharon). He leaves a void in the lives of his South Padre Island and Lee River families. He was born in 1950 and grew up in Winnipeg. In his teenage years he worked for Dominion Grocery, CN Rail, and started with Winnipeg Police Service in 1974. He retired in 2005 after 31 years of service. Tony and Heather built a cabin on Lee River in 2001 where they enjoyed cruising on the pontoon boat, hosting guests, BBQing almost anything, sharing laughs around the bonfire and tending to their gardens. Tony and Heather spent the last seven years travelling to South Padre Island for the winters where they enjoyed long walks on the beach with the dogs, playing tiles or golf with friends, or having a few beers at the beach side bars. Tony was proud of the life he built and quick to tell just about anyone about his kids and their adventures. Tony will forever be remembered for his laid back personality, big belly laugh, kind and caring heart, many funny faces, and animated story telling. Tony's family would like to thank: Doctors Coates, Gingrich, Martin, Hiebert, Bock, and McGregor; nurses Cheryl and Anne; and the rest of the Palliative and home care program teams (especially Tam and Noel) and the many, many kind, knowledgeable and caring people from CancerCare Manitoba, St. Boniface Hospital, and Health Sciences Centre. We love you Dad, rest easy and we'll meet you on the dock! A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at HarbourView Recreation Centre (1867 Springfield Rd.) between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. There will be no formal service, please come and go as you like, visit with friends and family, bring any photos or stories you may want to share to help us remember and celebrate Tony's successful and love filled life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Over the last few years Tony received numerous transfusions so if you are able, please donate with Canadian Blood Services. "Later!"

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • I coached Fred's son Jon in hockey. Then I joined the WPS and was fortunate to work in the north end with Sgt Ryman. Sgt Ryman was respected by all and had a great personality. I enjoyed listening to his stories and he was sooo proud of his children. I am sorry I missed the funeral he was an amazing man. My condolences to the family . • My deepest condolences to you Heather, John, Jennie and Carrie. I am so sorry for your loss. Your husband and dad always made us laugh, was caring and so helpful and supportive during those hockey/ringette days at Gateway - you all were. We always enjoyed his stories, that twinkle in his eye and the stories. He certainly was a gentle giant. Wishing you strength, peace and warm memories. His memory will live on through you all and will give you strength when you need it most. - Sherri, Kristi & Justyn - Posted by: Sherri Black (Friend ) on: Apr 05, 2015

  • Heather and family...my most sincere condolences. I am very sad that we have lost Fred. As you know I worked on the same shift in the old North end days in the late '70s and early '80s and was lucky to have worked many times with Fred as a partner. He was a wonderful man and an excellent partner. I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Bob Russell (Friend and WPS colleague) on: Mar 31, 2015

  • I first met Freddy (Tony) when I transferred to the Vice Div, we became instant friends, Tony and I both loved camping and spending time with family and friends, Tony invited us out to Cavalier and the rest is history, we spent years having the time of our lives spending time together, Tony was like an uncle to my kids, the campfires, golfing, taste testing contests, Beach Olympics, we all had so much fun together, and we are all better people for having Tony in our lives. Tony was also a boss one could only wish for, a true mentor. Tony will live in our hearts forever, and Heather, Jennie, Jon and Carrie, know our thoughts and prayers are with you. Tony rest in peace my friend, Bill, Linda, Stacey and Bill Jr. - Posted by: Bill Haines (Friend / co-worker) on: Mar 30, 2015

  • I had the good fortune of working with Tony, though most of us knew him as Fred. He welcomed me to his shift in Div. 14 with open arms, and I can honestly say that he was not only a good sergeant to work for but also a friend and mentor. Yes, Tony was good with the stories and loved to share a joke. Having retired a year after Tony, I knew he was hibernating out at Lee River, but as so often happens, we lose touch quickly. I was saddened to hear of his passing. Heather, I had the privilege of knowing you as well from your days at HSC, and I pray that you'll draw strength from family/friends in these next few days and weeks. I'll reflect on my working days with Tony and treasure those memories. - Posted by: Bob Stermscheg (Co-worker) on: Mar 28, 2015
