GORDON LOUIS WANKE With great sadness, the family would like to announce the passing of Gordon Louis Wanke at his home on Monday, March 23, 2015. Gordon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice, and his three children: Doug (Vancouver), Greg, and Colleen (both of Winnipeg). He is also survived by his granddaughter, Elizabeth, and his daughter-in-law, Sunny Oh. Gordon also leaves behind two brothers and two sisters. He was predeceased by his mother and father. Gordon was born in Vita, MB on September 22, 1936. He grew up on the farm and then came to Winnipeg in his early 20s. Not long after moving to Winnipeg, he met his wife Janice. They were soon married and began to raise a family. Gordon and his family enjoyed many years going to their cottage up at Hillside Beach, where he spent many happy hours fishing and picking blueberries. The family wishes to thank their neighbours - the Bruyere family, Fred and Leone Elcheshen, and Gil McCarthy who were supportive and helpful in times of need. The family would also like to thank Dr. Caners, Dr. Bshuty and his clinical nurse, Lynn. Special thanks go out to the home care workers that came in to assist and care for Gordon. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to the Manitoba Lung Association or the Scleroderma Association of Manitoba. As per Gordon's wishes, a formal funeral will not be held. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Uncle Gord was the quietest of my three special Wanke Uncles, though he always seemed to have something special in the works. His cabin was a special place where our families came together numerous times and had many wonderful blue-berry picking and other special adventures together. He was a very special person who was well liked and respected by many. Uncle Gord will be very much missed. Our sincerest condolences to Aunt Janice, Doug, Greg, Colleen, Sony and Elizabeth. - Posted by: Elmer Guest (Nephew) on: May 15, 2015

He is at peace now. - Posted by: Eileen Asselstine (Brown) (school chum/neighbour and friend of Janice ) on: Apr 01, 2015
