FREDERICK WILLIAM JOSEPH MCGOEY
Date of Passing: Dec 25, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK WILLIAM JOSEPH MCGOEY Freddy passed away suddenly on December 25, 2014 in Krabbi, Thailand. He will be missed by his sisters, Theresa Parrish (Bill) and Susan McGoey, nephews, Sam and Ben Parrish, and special friend Maow. He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Helen McGoey. Freddy had spent his winters in Thailand for many years, first in Koh Lanta and for the last 10 years or so, in Krabbi, where he had a wonderful, close-knit community of friends whom he cherished. During the summer months, he divided his time between Winnipeg and Calgary, where he also had many great friends. Freddy was a gentle soul, a little quirky by nature with a terrific sense of humour; he loved his friends in Thailand and in Canada and always took time to nurture his many friendships. Despite facing many challenges to his health throughout his life, he always maintained a positive demeanor. Freddy loved dinners at Viva, his favourite restaurant in Krabbi, writing the weekly quiz at Chilling Bar, watching an endless number of sporting events with friends, (especially Jets' games and soccer), stirring up debates on any and all issues, cooking, golfing, posting on Facebook and playing Words with Friends. He also loved showing visitors around his second home of Thailand and had taken many friends on tours of the country. A traditional Buddhist funeral was held for Freddy in Krabbi in January. He was cremated and his ashes were spread at sea in his beloved Thailand. A gathering of friends will be held this summer in Winnipeg. Goodbye Freddy....we will miss you....

Though we lived in the same neighbourhood and went to the same school it was as waiters at Chi-Chi's that I met Fred. He was a person who was a privilege to know and be around - extremely funny, smart and kind. I recounted today how at a party at his house he attempted to hit a soccer ball over their backyard swimming pool with his fathers wedge. The shot was great but the wedge didn't survive. Our staff drove down to North Dakota to play baseball against their Chi Chis team... laughs were continuous no doubt fuelled by Fred's nature. A football took about half an hour to find in a six-foot tall cornfield, in part due to the keg we brought along. I last ran into him when going for dinner at Grapes Main St - a very quiet weeknight where he was bartender in a large bar island - dressed and carrying himself so elegantly as the person he was. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Fred Code (Friend - Co-Worker) on: May 22, 2022

I spent many a shift bar tending with Fred, he was always aware his time was limited, yet his raw dry sense of humor is with me today...evidently. Your time on the earth was too short - may you make them laugh in heaven! Your friend - Shay - Posted by: Don Shay (Friend - Co-Worker) on: Oct 09, 2018

I am so sorry to hear about Freddy's passing. He was a lot of fun to hang out with growing up and we had many, many happy hours at the Winter Club playing badminton, tag, cards, etc. (He was a very skilled and resourceful badminton player - and a great golfer). I wish I had known he was in Thailand, as I was there last year, and it would have been fun to catch up. It sounds like he was happy in life. Certainly I smile when I think of our times together. - Posted by: Jim Saunders (Friend from childhood) on: Apr 12, 2015

Dear Theresa, Susan and Family: I am so sorry to hear about Freddie. He was a nice kid, smart, little quiet and quite quirky as you say! With a great giggle and a nice smile. I remember Freddie at the Winter Club running around with all the kids, playing badminton and just being Freddie. He was always giggling about something and like so many others just wore his grey SJR socks, falling down I might add, and skidded along around corners having so much fun. You mum would roll her eyes. He really was very funny and just a cute kid having fun. With his older sibs looking out for him. He will be greatly missed. From all the Macaw Family, our deepest sympathy to you and your families. Yours, Sidney - Posted by: Sidney Macaw (family friend) on: Apr 04, 2015
