ANNE DARKE After a brief illness, we are saddened to announce the passing of our mother Anne on March 29, 2015 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Anne is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Roy, her son Peter and daughter Leanne. Mom was born on August 31, 1935 and spent her childhood on the family farm in Snowflake Manitoba. At 16, she left the homestead to teach in a one room school house in Southern Manitoba. When she came to Winnipeg, she worked at Prudential Assurance and then at CBC. She met her beloved husband Roy and in 1961 they were married. Mom and Dad travelled to Europe and lived in London, England for six months. Dad was on a fellowship and Mom fondly remembered the experiences of living overseas, the travels to Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany and of course, the shopping. Dad showed Mom the world and their enduring love is one to envy. As the years passed and Leanne and Peter grew older, Mom reentered the workforce and became a Real Estate Agent. She loved the negotiating and met so many incredible people through her time as an Agent. As a family we spent summers at the cottage north of Gimli. The freezer was always full and friends and family came and went, all enjoying the escape from the city. Mom loved to garden and got great enjoyment from the beautiful blooms filling her gardens, at home and at the lake. After she retired, Mom spent her days caring for her family. She always provided a soft spot for us to fall. She loved us all and told us daily how much she did. We could talk to her about almost anything and after she shared her opinion, the decisions we made were ours and she accepted them. Mom was a strong, determined woman. She enjoyed music, with a special love of Pavarotti and on occasion would pick up her accordion and play us a tune. If the right polka came on, she and Dad would take a twirl around the kitchen. She had a good sense of humour and enjoyed a good hearty laugh. Mom encouraged us in our endeavours throughout her life, always sharing with us little quips and tidbits of knowledge she had acquired. She also came to love her "fur" grandkids Lucky and Sebastian and when Lucky came to live with her and Dad, the bonds formed were very strong. We will miss her desperately. I hope life treats you kind And I hope you have all you've dreamed of And I wish you joy and happiness But above all this I wish you love And I.will always love you until we meet again P.C. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Memorial Reception will be held between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB. Roy, Leanne, and Peter would like to thank family and friends for their extraordinary support during Mom's short and unexpected illness. We would also like to thank all the medical professionals at St. Boniface Hospital, especially the Doctors Nurses and Staff of 5E and finally 5B for the patience, compassion and comfort provided to our Mom, and us, during this difficult time. My sincere condolences to the family, and my apologies for having missed the funeral. Anne was a long-term client with whom I had the most wonderful conversations. I will miss our annual conversations/debates/discussions about "everything under the sun" very much. - Posted by: Julie Bubnick (Accountant) on: Apr 20, 2015
