Date of Passing: Apr 01, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBRIAN MOWATT COLLIE 1947 - 2015 Suddenly on April 1, 2015 with his wife and his lab Hershey by his side Brian peacefully passed away. He leaves to mourn his wife Gloria-Jean, children; Don and wife Pamela, Tammy and husband Lyle, Sherry and husband Richard, and son Robert, grandchildren; Daniel, Amber, Tristan, Daniel, Gena, Trevor, Mitchell, Natalie, Alyssa, Piper, Marcy and Brandy and great-grandsons; Braxton and Bradley to whom he was lovingly referred to as Papa. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Brian spent time with his parents at the family farm in Neepawa, MB. He began his working career in the towing industry where he met the love of his life Gloria-Jean and decided to raise their family in Charleswood. He made a career change in 1972 and became a realtor for Campbell Lane & Haliburton. In 1975 he obtained his Broker's License and opened his own real estate office, Century 21 Collie & Co. in 1981. Brian was Past President of The Winnipeg Real Estate Board, and became a member of Manitoba Real Estate Association's Executive Committee in 1987. He then became President of M.R.E.A in 1990 and in 1991 became their Chief Executive Officer. Brian was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg West since 1978 and served as President 1983-84. He was particularly proud of his 36 years of perfect attendance and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Brian enjoyed travelling to various parts of the world. It was his love of the outdoors that led to the building of the family cottage at Beresford Lake. While at the cottage he enjoyed many hours hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and boating but most important was spending quality time with family and friends. He also had a great interest in cars, trucks and Nascar Racing, attending Daytona 500 several times. Brian had a kind heart and was always there to listen, never judgemental and always fair. He had great integrity and worked hard for anything he believed in, and will be sadly missed by all he touched. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Diabetes Association of Manitoba or The Manitoba Real Estate Association Shelter Foundation. Celebration of Brian's Life will be held on April 8, 2015 at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive at 1:00 pm. Private interment with family to follow. Arrangements made by Chapel Lawn

My sincere condolences to Gloria and family, I remember walking the sites at Beresford deciding on where we should built our cottage and our family was fortunate to pick the one next to the Collie family, our boys grew up with Brian being a huge influence on many activities the kids took part in at the lake. Many happy times were spent out there. I also had the opportunity to work with Brian at Century 21. Many good laughs, he always took the time to spend with any person that crossed his doorway. He will be missed by many. - Posted by: Sharon Kent formally Pelissier (Friend/business asst.) on: Apr 13, 2015

Brian and I started our careers at Campbell Lane & Haliburton in the mid '70s. He assisted me when I was left in charge of the insurance when Bob Lane went to be an MP in Ottawa and that helped my career in insurance agency management. Thank you and my best to the family. I will always remember the great times we had in his office. Both of us talking about him going to Daytona 500 and plus I always asking him if he had any updated family pictures of the kids. This always brought a smile on his face. I will truly miss him and so will everyone else!! Condolences to Brian's family. Gloria, Donnie, Tammy, Sherry and Robbie, I am so sad to hear of Brian's Passing. I just wished I had taken the time to pop-in to see him at least a fraction of the times that I would think about him. Brian was always a very positive advocate for anything I wanted to do and gave me confidence to believe in myself. Even after long periods of time I would call, he made time and was genuinely interested in how I was doing. It was Brian's warmth, intelligence, caring, humour and coaching me in Real Estate and life that I will miss. There were many times while I worked with Brian, I would ask him for his opinion on how to deal with an upsetting, frustrating situation, and he would give me the smart, less emotional reactive response ... and even today, I say to myself ... How would Brian handle this???? Those were the days back at Century 21, Collie and Co...one big happy family. The memories in Real Estate, in the office, at your home and your cottage, and as part of your family ... will never fade and will always be treasured. It is true that your favourite saying was, "He who Dies, with the most toys...Wins!" ...You were always the Winner in my Mind ... Since your best WIN was your family, friends and all those who loved and admired you... What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal...You will always remain immortal, for so many of us. You will be missed but never forgotten ... Your Friend Kathy - Posted by: Kathy Jansen (Business Associate and 'Old' Friend) on: Apr 07, 2015

I first met Brian in the early 1990's at what were then called Association Executive Council Seminars. I was the Executive Officer of Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver and Brian was the new Executive Officer of the Manitoba Real Estate Association. Brian immediately distinguished himself as a leader in that group. He was collaborative, eager to participate, and well liked - attributes that soon led to Brian being a recognized and influential leader. Over the past 25 years there have been few major changes in organized real estate that did not benefit from Brian's thoughtful touch. I am grateful to have had Brian as a friend and a colleague. Condolences to Brian's family. Larry Buttress - Posted by: Larry Buttress (work colleague) on: Apr 07, 2015

Brian was a true advocate of our Fairmont Family and who believed in strong partnerships, of which we had one, relating to Banff Western Connection. You will be greatly missed for your calm approach to all situations and your steady wisdom. Too bad you didn't get to use your Maui Jims for long, hope you're enjoying the sunshine wherever you may be! Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. - Posted by: Wendy Kirkpatrick & Fairmont Family (Business relationship with Fairmont Banff Springs) on: Apr 06, 2015

I will always remember the great spring fishing trips we had at Brian's cottage at Beresford Lake. Brian was always a good friend and helpful regularly giving me advice of real estate. Thirty years ago we bought a revenue property together. Brian always had a new boat or motor or snowmobile or other fun toy. I'll always remember Brian joking commenting: "HE who dies with the most toys wins" Brian was definitely a winner as well as a wonderful person. I feel privileged to have had him as a friend. - Posted by: Alan Archibald (friend) on: Apr 06, 2015
