JEAN BARR It is with deep sadness that the family of Mrs. Jean Barr (nee Hrankowski), wishes to announce her passing on Friday, April 3, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospice, Thunder Bay, ON, with her family by her side. Jean was born to Walter and Pauline Hrankowski on October 21, 1934 on the family farm in Maleb, MB. At a very early age, the family relocated to Winnipeg Beach, MB. Upon finishing school, Jean and her mother moved to Winnipeg where she worked as a stenographer. In 1956, she married her true love Robert Barr. In 1975, the Barr family relocated to Thunder Bay, ON with their three children to start the business Industrial Chrome and Plating. A year later they opened I&M Electric Rebuilders, a local business still run by the Barr/Bosinger families. Upon their retirement in 2000, Bob and Jean spent many years wintering at their condominium in Kissimmee, Florida. Jean's many interests included travel, golf, reading and volunteering for many different community and church organizations. Her special love was for her seven grandchildren. Baba loved visiting with all her grandchildren and sharing stories and being active in all their lives. Baba's immense strength and faith was an inspiration to all her family, which is why her journey ended so peacefully. Jean leaves behind her daughter Cathy (Stan) Bosinger of Thunder Bay, ON; sons, Bob (Dawn) Barr of Medicine Hat, AB and Chris (Kristine) Barr of Thunder Bay, ON. Seven grandchildren, Ryan Bosinger (Meaghan Krauss) of Banff, AB, Chelsea (Andrew) Kwong of Lethbridge, AB, Sondra Bosinger (Joshua Kennard) of Sioux Lookout, ON, Bradley Barr of Winkler, MB, Erica Barr (Daniel) of Lethbridge, AB, Brendan and Noah Barr of Thunder Bay, ON. She is also survived by her sister Eleanor Borodey of Gimli, MB. She was predeceased by her husband Robert; siblings, Billy, Polly, Mary, Stanley, Josie and Frank. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, and many friends who considered her family. Jean had requested anyone attending the funeral to wear colourful Spring attire. Jean told us that this was the end of her journey and she wanted us to celebrate her life. Prayer services will be held on Tuesday evening, April 7, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Blake Funeral Chapel, Thunder Bay, ON. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi c.s. In Baba's memory, in lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I knew Jean Barr when I was a child and a teenager. She was the mother of one of my best friends, Cathy Barr. I remember her as always being happy with a great big smile and an infectious giggle. She always had time to talk to us and to listen to our teenage drama stories and often came up with very practical sound advice. She was a great Mom to all of us on Beaverbrook Street. I am sad to hear of her passing. I send much love to her family. Wendy Challis. Much love from Doug Neil and Pat Challis too. - Posted by: Wendy Challis (Friend) on: Apr 07, 2015
