ALEXANDER CHRISTIAN SWAN
Date of Passing: Apr 04, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER CHRISTIAN SWAN July 8, 1945 - April 4, 2015 Chris passed at Riverview Health Centre, in the early hours of April 4, 2015, with family at his side. He was predeceased by his father, Alexander and his mother Valgerdur. He is survived by his brother Ken (Barb), his niece Alexandra and nephew Ian. In his early years, Chris sang with the Winnipeg Boys Choir and Eaton's Good Deed Club. He excelled at swimming, achieving the standards for Royal Life Saving before he was old enough to be a lifeguard. He had a keen passion for reading, and a mind that absorbed information like a sponge. His life changed forever after a tragic car accident. After a head injury and three months in a coma, he awoke a different person. Many months of rehabilitation at the Municipal Hospitals followed. Meaningful relationships would always become strained. Mobility and vision problems would plague him for the rest of his life. In his last years, his waning motor skills were a constant source of frustration. In spite of his challenges, Chris was always outgoing and prepared to help, whether donating blood, driving the elderly to church, or lending a hand to those he thought were less fortunate than he. We all make choices, and most times we suffer little from those choices. Unfortunately, Chris seemed to suffer more misfortune from his choices than most of us. Through it all, he never lost his faith or sense of humour. Chris was proud of his heritage, and a longtime member of the St. Andrew's Society. Chris has been freed from the broken body in which he had been trapped for nearly 50 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the care and support provided to Chris over his years in residence. Cremation has taken place, a Service of Remembrance will take place today, Saturday, April 11, 2:00 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 61 Picardy Pl. Interment will be held at a later date in the family plot at Elmwood Cemetery.
