VELVET (STUTSKY) TEPLESKI May 11, 1961 - April 6, 2015 On a beautiful, sunny spring morning, Velvet passed away peacefully at home, where she wanted to be, surrounded by many who loved her. Velvet is survived by her best friend and loving spouse, Barry, her son Devin (Christine) and her daughter Nadia. She is also survived by her devoted parents Bill and Elsie Stutsky, her brothers Allan (Susan) Stutsky, Vance Stutsky (Delyna), and her sister-in-law Dana. Velvet also leaves behind her many loving sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Velvet was predeceased by her mother-in-law and friend Olga Tepleski. Velvet was born and raised in the Selkirk area, graduated from high school in Selkirk and from Red River College. Velvet was very active in 4-H and loved being part of the Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. Velvet met Barry and were married on May 8, 1982. Life took them to Calgary, Saskatoon, Airdrie, back to Selkirk and then on to Vancouver Island, making many special friends along the way. Velvet was very proud of her children and all they accomplished in their young lives. She was always there for them to offer positive encouragement, guidance and praise in whatever choices they pursued, always instilling the importance of strength in family and friends. Velvet loved travelling, jazzercise, gardening, animals, the great outdoors and simply enjoying life. Her positive outlook, demeanour, and attitude as she battled cancer was inspirational to all who knew her. Her expression, "Well guys, it is what it is", will be remembered by all. Flowers gratefully declined. Those who wish may donate to a charity of their choice. A celebration of Velvet's life will be held in Selkirk, MB Saturday, May 9, 2015, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Selkirk Golf and Country Club; another will also be held in Duncan, BC.

  • A great loss for you and the kids. I know I will miss her cherry attitude even during her darkest days. Think of her often especially when I make perogies the way she taught me and even though I dont make chocolates any more still remember the fun time we had doing it.
