MATILDA (MATTIE) BARS (nee BOSIAK) It is with great sadness that the family of Matilda "Mattie" Bars announces her passing on February 28, 2015 in her 104th year. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Curtis and Bernarr (Anne), grandsons Stefan (Allison Komishon) and Richard, and beloved dogs Sophie, Kayla, and Sullivan. Mattie was born and raised in Dauphin, Manitoba. In 1942, Mattie married Edward Bars in Winnipeg and enjoyed 36 years of marriage until his passing in 1978. Mattie had fond memories of her accomplishments as a young unmarried woman working in Winnipeg's women's apparel industry, coordinating fashion shows and designing clothes. During her working days, she and her close friends enjoyed summers on the beaches of Lake Winnipeg. After marrying, Mattie devoted her life to her family and community. She loved socializing and being of service to those around her, and was honoured by the Catholic Women's League for her contributions to their cause. Her thoughtful and positive outlook on life extended into every interaction, welcoming guests and neighbours into her home for friendly conversation and many cups of tea. She was happy to share her expertise in gardening, which was one of her great passions. Even during the winter months, her house was filled with blooms. She shared these passions with her family and was in her glory as her sons married, grandchildren were born, and dogs entered the family. She took great interest in her grandsons, taking them on their first bus rides, teaching them to sew, catch a ball, and how to properly take care of a yard. Since late 2006, Mattie was a resident of Holy Family Home. She received loving care from Agnes Wieczorkiewicz and the many other exceptional nurses and staff members, for which the family is very grateful. In her incredible life, Mattie worked as a fashion designer, designed and built homes, raised a family, maintained an immaculate home, and was the picture of grace and kindness. Mattie expressed on numerous occasions how wonderful her life had been, with a warm and loving family and many friends. She leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories. In accordance with Mattie's wishes, a private internment at Assumption Cemetery has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Road, Winnipeg, on Friday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mattie's memory to Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R2W 1T9 or to St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1G1.
