Date of Passing: Apr 12, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON PATRICK EDYE Gordon Patrick Edye, 1920 - 2015, died peacefully in hospital April 12, 2015. The third of six children, Gordon was the son of Anna Marie (Farrell) and William Patrick Edye. Predeceased by Dorothy, Warren, and Grace, he is survived by his two sisters - Patricia Edye and Marion Gould. He is also survived by his three loving daughters, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, it was there that Gordon met his beautiful and talented wife Margaret Isobel (Hooey) while working at Mike Ament's Lodge and Camps. Together, they raised their three daughters Sharon, Dawn and Frances. Over the years, Gordon lovingly supported Margaret as she pursued a university degree and he cared for her as her health declined with age. During the Second World War, Gordon served as a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force and a Flight Instructor with the Commonwealth Training Program in western Canada. After the war, he returned to Sioux Lookout and worked as a Fireman and Conductor for the Canadian National Railroad (CNR). In 1957, the family moved to Winnipeg where he continued his work with the CNR and VIA Rail until his retirement in 1984. Gordon took pleasure in his garden, northern living (camping and fishing) and travel. In Winnipeg's "Gumbo" soil, he was delighted to find he could grow twice the produce in half the space of his northern garden. He also enjoyed sharing his pleasure of northern living with his children and grandchildren - Anna and Michael Bendzsak, Joel, Jason and James Edye-Rowntree and Eleanor and Alex Edye. The family thanks Dr. Permack, his family physician, and the thoughtful and supportive staff at Rosewood Manor, Misericordia Interim Care Cornish 2, and Victoria General Hospital. A memorial service will be held Thursday April 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. My sincere condolence for Gordon's passing. I remember what a wonderful gentleman he was and I will always also remember his gift of my first ride on a locomotive in the Sioux Yard engine with him at the throttle with my father and brother. I know he is gone but he will not be forgotten. - Posted by: Patrick Edwards (Nephew) on: Apr 23, 2015

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Your mom and dad were wonderful neighbours and friends to our family for years on Wavell. We kids called him "Uncle Gordie". He was so patient and kind; always there to lend a hand when needed. I loved to listen to him cut the grass on summer evenings using his reel lawn mower. A very special gentleman. - Posted by: Michelle Giesbrecht Linton (Neighbour) on: Apr 16, 2015

Dear Sharon, Dawn and Frances and your families, I have been thinking of you all ever since I got Gabor's call on Monday morning. I wish you peace and the comfort of many good memories of your father. I remember him as a kind and gentle man and a faithful parishioner at Rosedale (later Churchill Heights) United.
