ISAAC GIESBRECHT Mr. Isaac "FIG" Giesbrecht died unexpectedly in the Health Sciences Centre on April 11, 2015 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 55. Isaac is survived by his wife, Paulette and his sons, Denny, Clinton and Brett. He is preceded in death by his mother Margaret (nee Hildebrandt) and his father Bernhard Giesbrecht, of Tolstoi. Isaac was born on February 10, 1960 in Emerson, Manitoba. He married Paulette Maynard of St-Malo, the love of his life, in 1986. In December of 1994, Isaac began working for Powell Equipment/Toromont Cat. Isaac was a devoted family man and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and going to the cabin in Bissett, and was an experienced diesel mechanic. He was coach, assistant coach and team manager for the Niverville Clippers for over a decade. He often was found quadding, dressed in full camouflage, steel toe boots and some unusual hat. He was also a problem-solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects at work and around the house. He was an extremely kind and friendly man and never hesitated to invite friends, family and strangers in for a chat. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. A viewing is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at The Word of Life Church, 233-3rd Street South, Niverville, MB with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Isaac's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either the Children's Wish Foundation at http://www.childrenswish.ca/ or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada at https://beta.mssociety.ca/ .

Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • I can confirm Jim Wiebe's story on how nice of a guy, Issac was. I too was in Morris that day...gone with friends to the Stampede. Turns out our driver met up with a member of the opposite sex and left us to fend for ourselves in finding a ride back to the big city. We didn't really know anyone left at the end and if it weren't for Issac we'd been in a mess of trouble. Condolences go out to his immediate family and to his siblings from a former Tolstoi friend......Don Zahara....he had that Geisbrecht Grin that would make you feel welcome and meant it. • With the loss of a loved one here on earth, you gain an angel in heaven that watches over you. May you take comfort in knowing that you have another angel to watch over your family. We extend our most sincere condolences to you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. - Posted by: The Burnham Family (Friends) on: Apr 20, 2015

  • I just heard tonight...I don't have the words. I'm so sorry Paulette....haven't seen him in a long time but I loved that man. - Posted by: Sean Hilder (old old friend) on: Apr 17, 2015

  • Isaac was the always familiar presence on our street - standing in his garage, sitting on that tiny lawn tractor or "patrolling" our street in the late evening. He never failed to wave or nod as he passed. He constantly teased Yannie in his light-hearted way but was always there when Yannie needed help. The landscape of our community has changed without Isaac. We will miss him. - Posted by: Sherry and Yannie Guikas (friends) on: Apr 17, 2015

  • isaac was truly a great guy. i went to school with him for years, we were always avid sports guys, and also avid shenanigan pullers! isaac was always a very cool quiet humble soul. i had not seen him in years but as i see in the comments he was still the super human being i remember and will always remember. the last time i saw isaac was at the morris stampede. i had lost my ride and no sooner that i mentioned it, isaac told me to come for a walk with him and low and behold he took to his car and said jump in and gave me a ride back to the city, no questions asked!!! just the kindest person you would want to meet. r.i.p. my good friend. condolences to the giesbrecht family. he will be truly missed but NEVER FORGOTTEN!!! - Posted by: jim wiebe (friend, schoolmate, both from tolstoi) on: Apr 15, 2015

  • The Giesbrechts own the house/cottage next to ours in Bissett. During these few years that we have come to know Isaac, we have been touched with his kindness, sense of humor, common sense. He was a uniquely special neighbor, always a warm smile, always ready to do something for others, always keeping things tidy yet comfortable. When our pine tree split, he came with his chain-saw to cut it down; when our porch door jammed, he came with his plane to fit it; and when I mused about some old, tall trees falling on our house, he offered to cut them down - no simple task half way down the embankment to the water. Each time I pulled out a 20.00 bill as appreciation, he objected with his usual, engaging smile. Each time I had to stuff it in his pocket with the comment, 'buy yourself another chain-saw chain.' I phoned him last year enquiring about the toilet tank he had just installed. Happily, he shared this information, and then added, 'use our toilet...it has such a huge tank... it will never fill up'. This is just the kind of guy he was - anything for anybody and no big deal. We will miss him very, very much. It seemed to us, he gave this same consideration and respect to his family. We felt that Paulette adored him; when we met his sons, it seemed they were the same fine young men as their father. Isaac was just a common guy who led by example. A truly great man in a world that so much needs such men. - Posted by: Rudi Engbrecht Sharron Seewaldt (Bissett neighbor) on: Apr 15, 2015

  • Paulette and family, our very deepest condolences for such a tragic loss. Our street will never be the same without his presence outside. Since Makayla was a baby, Issac would tease her every time they would see each other. They shared a "unique" sense of humor together. She will miss him. And as a hockey player coached by Issac, I still hold onto his kind suggestions and technics for the game. He was a great soul. Truly will be missed by all who knew him. - Posted by: Sylvie & Makayla Dorge (Friends) on: Apr 15, 2015

  • Pauline and family, my heart is filled with prayers of peace and comfort for you in the tragic loss of Issac. We have gotten to know you both and Clinton through Clipper hockey. Isaac could be counted on to bug, tease or simply be fun to visit with. Your loss is great. May God be the source of your strength in the coming days. • Our sincerest condolences to Paulette and family. Isaac would say we're almost cousins because our wives are both French. We didn't see each other often in the last few years, but every time we met, his smile warmed my heart. Heaven will be a better place with Isaac as a permanent resident. We'll miss you brother. - Posted by: Marc & Colette Courcelles (Friends) on: Apr 15, 2015
