JOYCE IRENE HOWE 1934 - 2015 Peacefully, our loving mother and grandmother passed away during the early evening of Saturday April 11th at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. Joyce will be greatly missed by her son Robert and daughter Carol, their spouses Natalie and John and her grandchildren Elizabeth (8) and Sophia (6) of Robert and Natalie, and Marika (19) and Elsalene (13) of Carol and John Akkerman. The respective families reside in Verbier, Switzerland and Boca Raton, Florida. Joyce was predeceased by her best friend and long term companion Benjamin Harnish 4.5 years prior. Daughter of Enid Nelson and Edwin Healy, and sister to June and Joan, Joyce was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, and moved to Winnipeg at an early age. She attended Gordon Bell High School and when completed immediately went to work in Downtown Winnipeg. Between periods of work and raising family, Joyce spent her entire life in Winnipeg, and was loyal to its development being actively involved as a volunteer in the Junior League, The Winnipeg Art Gallery, and Victoria Beach events and fundraisers. While Joyce raised her two children, she spent over 15 years working with the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba. After putting in full days, Joyce was commonly bailing out' her children typing their last minute essays until late into the evenings. This typified our mother, she lived her life unselfishly and for others, always placing friends and family first. Joyce was respected and loved by her friends for despite any challenges encountered, she maintained the most infectious laugh and warming smiles. The family spent all of its summers at Victoria Beach and it is there that Joyce found her greatest comfort and relaxation. Close friends gathering for barbeques as well as sporting and cultural activities were a constant. Joyce had a great passion for the cultural arts and was an avid reader. Her later in life partnership with Ben afforded her the opportunity to enjoy a combination of cultural and sporting activities in both Winnipeg and abroad. Their collective passion for travel afforded them annual visits to family in both Europe and the USA. A private family and friends gathering was held Wednesday for Joyce at the Hotel Fort Garry. The family would also like to thank the 2nd Floor Team at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their excellent support during her residency. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Parkinson's Society or a charity of your choice would be much appreciated.
