SHIRLEY ANN MIGUEZ
Born: Sep 24, 1930
Date of Passing: Apr 11, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHIRLEY ANN (GINGER) MIGUEZ (TUCK) September 24, 1930 - April 11, 2015 With family at her side "Ginger" passed away quietly and peacefully at Extendicare Oakview Place on April 11, 2015 at the age of 84. She will be forever lovingly remembered by husband Tony; children Rosemary (Jim), Mike (Alisha), Joe (Daren), Laura (Rob), Mark (Joanne); eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brothers John and Alan; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by parents Muriel and Gerald and brother Doug. She was born in St. James and lived in the area most of her adult life. Mom was a Canadian Olympic swimming trials competitor who eventually turned her swimming interest into teaching and instructing swimming, lifeguarding, and lifesaving to countless others over the years. A busy homemaker raising five children, she eventually returned to working at Sherbrook Pool, as well as the Canadian Red Cross, and YMCA. A quick wit, extremely organized, enjoying a good laugh, board games - especially a good game of scrabble, crossword puzzles, arts and crafts, a love for the spoken and written word (our walking, talking dictionary), an avid reader when she had the time, were all part of her unique makeup - as was lending a hand or giving of her time for others. In addition to instructing, she lifeguarded at Lake Winnipeg beaches, was a Cub Scout leader including running the summer cub/scout camps at Camp Manitou; coaching girl's baseball including a provincial championship team; creating, organizing and chaperoning the teen dances at Border Community Club; and volunteering with the English as a Second Language program, among other things. Mom left us in a peaceful state maybe knowing her beloved Chicago Cubs were going to win the 2015 World Series - that is according to a scene in Back to the Future: Part II. See you at Wrigley Field in October mom! The family wishes to express their heart felt appreciation and Thanks to the kind and compassionate 1-East staff at Extendicare Oakview Place for their on-going care and kindness. As per mom's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Shirley "Ginger's" memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

When George passed away, Ginger and Fred came to our house on Queen street for breakfast with the family. Ginger brought her own teapot which was lovingly embraced with a tea cozy. Both she and I were surprised and pleased to see that we had the same patterned tea cozy. It brought us together then during a sad time, and I will always remember Ginger when I am enjoying a pot of tea. Our heartfelt condolences.
