Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH M. (BETH) IRWIN (nee DOUGHTY) Beth Irwin passed away at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg on April 16, 2015 at the age of 93. Beth was the daughter of George and Lily Doughty of Salvador, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her husband Robert James (Jim) Irwin and by her daughter, Pamela. She is survived by three children, Robert (Margaret) of Ottawa, Judith (Richard) of Kingston and Donald of Winnipeg and by six grandchildren (Steve, Dave, Alex, Irene, Ashley and Brandon). Beth was born on February 8, 1922 in Salvador, Saskatchewan, a younger sister to her brother Norman. She attended Normal School in Regina and her teaching career began in a one-room school in rural Saskatchewan and continued in Saskatoon. She and Jim were married in 1949. As her family grew independent, Beth returned to teaching at Neil Campbell School in Winnipeg, where she taught for more than 20 years. In retirement, Beth and Jim liked to travel across Canada and the United States and did so for more than a decade, until Jim passed away in 1999. Beth was a faithful parishioner at St. John's Cathedral in Winnipeg and in her later years, she continued to attend as long as her health permitted. Her children think of her as a strong, practical woman and a lady with class. She was a devoted mother, a wonderful teacher, an excellent seamstress and a kind friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. In accordance with her wishes, only a private family memorial will be held. If friends so desire, gifts in remembrance of Beth may be made to a charity of choice.

I lived on Linden Ave. and was a friend of Pam's. My sister Isla was in your mother's class in grade 4 at Neil Campbell and my mother Dorothy also taught at Neil Campbell. Isla particularly recalls the many class projects like making a cook book for Mother's Day as something that was commonly done in your mother's class. On behalf of our family we wish to express our sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. Lorna Sanderson The Pas MB - Posted by: Lorna Sanderson (nee Scarth) (friend of Pam's ) on: Apr 21, 2015
