HENRY RUDOLPH OSHUST Henry Oshust passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Erickson District Health Centre at the age of 87 years. Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen, grandson Jeremy, and his parents Leon and Sophie. He leaves his children Peter (Alyson) and Susan (Terry); his grandchildren Kelsey, Chenoa, Bronwyn, and Derry; relatives and friends to carry on his legacy of love of and enthusiasm for life. Henry was an intelligent, generous, and enduringly optimistic fellow who held a lifelong curiosity of the natural world. He was happiest when family and friends could gather to share in each other's company, good food, and a few "oh-be-joyfuls". He was an active participant in his community, as Mayor of Erickson for 11 years, and served for many years in local service organizations. He loved his wife and family; picking mushrooms, berries, and artifacts; having cookouts and fish-fries. He was a shopkeeper who loved growing things, and was especially proud of his garden on the farm. A funeral for Henry will be held at St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church in Erickson at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Erickson District Health Centre Activity Program. Remembrances and condolences may be emailed to Rae's Funeral Service of Erickson in care of arrangements. (204)636-7727.

  • Peter and Susan and families, Your father and grandfather was a truly exceptional man who was generous with support and who loved life and all that it had to offer. It was my distinct honour to work for your parents for many years and I remember those days as special since I was made to feel most welcome and was included in many family moments. Though I will not be with you as you celebrate Henry's life be assured that my most sincere thoughts and sympathies are with you at this time. Treasure your special memories of this wonderful man! Love to you all. Maurice Larson - Posted by: Maurice Larson (Friend) on: Apr 23, 2015

  • We remember, with fondness, Henry and Helen. They were so kind to our whole family and especially after our father's death. I, Judy, was grateful to work for them in the Solo Store in my senior year of high school. In the years following, it was always a pleasure to meet up with them when we visited our mom, Astrid Godin, in Erickson. - Posted by: Judy and Danny Gusdal and Joyce and Henry Lucy (Friends) on: Apr 18, 2015

  • I had a lovely visit with Henry last year on Mother's Day while visiting my mom's grave in Erickson. I spent some of my favourite times in Erickson over the years and Oshust's was always a place we frequented. I know there were times when my grandmother appreciated the help of being able to charge her groceries in the lean times. Those types of stores are no longer the norm, but they served a community in ways that thanks cannot be enough for the consideration of people in a respectful way. Henry was missing Helen and he and she are reunited and we hope your family can find peace and strength in the support of friends and family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Monique & Reg Graboski and family (Family of the late Christine Johnson of Erickson) on: Apr 18, 2015
