DOUGLAS ROWAN June 7, 1925 - April 21, 2015 With deep sadness we announce the passing of Doug, at the Grace Hospital, at 89 years of age. Doug will be missed by Betty, his wife of 67 years; his children, Keith (Sandy), Kevin (Loree), Kathy (Shawn) and Kim (Chris); grandchildren, Jason (Batsi), James, Chris (Amy), Heather (Jesse), Andrew (Zoe) and Michael (Mae); and great-granddaughter, Maia. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Keith, and his infant daughter, Susan. Dad was born in Sheffield, England. During the Second World War he was a navigator in the Royal Air Force, stationed initially in Prince Edward Island and sent back to England where he was stationed in Birchum Newton. Mom and Dad were married on May 15, 1948. They immigrated to Canada in 1953. Dad starting working at the Greater Winnipeg Transit Commission as a transit driver during the day while taking university courses in the evenings. He graduated as a RIA and then a CA. Dad was the Deputy Auditor with Metro and then with the City of Winnipeg. Dad's passions were reading and classical music. He was a very intelligent, well versed man with a wickedly dry British sense of humour. In keeping with Dad's wishes, there will not be a service. Cremation has taken place. His final wish was to have his ashes spread into the Red River so he could make his way back to England. The family intends to grant this wish with a private family gathering. If friends so desire, a donation honouring Dad to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 53 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 would be greatly appreciated. I will always remember Mr. Rowan as a very quiet man but with a great sense of humour. He would be reading in the living room while us bratty kids were either playing in the basement or eating some of my favourite meals in the kitchen...Mrs. Rowan's yummy hotdogs! Why on earth I thought they were better than at home but they really were. Tally ho up the river and home to you sir. You will be missed. - Posted by: Janine (Whitman) Meister (Friend of Kim's) on: Apr 24, 2015
