IAN BLICQ 1930 - 2015 As he had lived his life, Ian left us with courage and kindness on April 22nd. Ian was born in Guernsey in the English Channel Islands, arriving in Canada as a boy during the Second World War. Ian worked as the ADM of Industry, Trades and Mines for the province of Manitoba, striving to continuously improve our community. Family and friends were cornerstones of Ian's life and he cherished both dearly. Ian took great pleasure in his children and grandchildren and savored their times together. Ian spent his summers at Clear Lake, where his love of good friendships, tennis, sailing and sunsets was delightfully fulfilled. Ian was predeceased by his wife Ann, his daughter Susan and brother Anthony. He is survived by his brother Ron, his sons David (Suzanne), Steven (Riley) and John, as well as his beloved grandchildren Thomas, James, Brodie and Melandria. Donations to support the work of Riverview hospital may be made in his name. A ceremony of remembrance will be held Friday, May 8th at St. Mary Magdalene at 10:00 a.m. In his own words: "It has been tremendous fun."

I had the good fortune to "inherit" Ian as Ass't Deputy Minister when I arrived in MB as DM, Industry & Commerce in July 1966. Regrettably we lost contact when I left in the spring of 1971. We last exchanged e-mails in December 2014. He was a devoted, and very competent civil servant - in the service of Manitoba...and the inspiration for the "Growing to Beat '70" campaign! - Posted by: Lorne Dyke (colleague) on: Dec 20, 2018

A long time ago I enjoyed the privilege of working with Ian on two major government projects -- the Industrial Development Program of the 1981 Tri-Governmental Winnipeg Core Area Initiative Agreement, and the Manitoba Health Industries Development Initiative in the 1980's. Ian was an extremely effective public entrepreneur, bringing the talents and resources of the public and private sectors together to produce economic benefits for Manitobans in imaginative and innovative ways. More recently I have been one of his neighbours at Lindenholm Place. We will all miss his wry smile and cheerful good humour. - Posted by: David Sanders (Ian's neighbour and former colleague) on: May 09, 2015

A very special man. Every time I saw him, I was greeted with a smile and twinkle in the eye. He taught me that silly games always make for the best fun. He was a great role model, showing kindness and encouragement and spreading joy. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Sandra Shwetz (Family Friend) on: May 04, 2015

Ian was the consummate Civil Servant. His long career serving a variety of governments and Ministers was also reflected in the respect accorded him by the many firms and business sectors he served. Manitoba was the beneficiary of his quiet but strong capabilities. My condolences to the family. What a lovely tribute! I was the beneficiary of the hospitality of Mr. & Mrs. Blicq at the family home in St. Vital on a number of occasions. Thinking of you all. - Posted by: Charles Crossin (Friend of Steve ) on: Apr 27, 2015
