Born: Nov 04, 1921
Date of Passing: Apr 18, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARTHA ARNOLD (nee ZIMMER) Martha Arnold, our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on April 18, 2015 at 93 years of age. Martha is survived by four children; June (Alfred) Hormann, Diane (Kent) Forsland, Linda Hegg and Jim (Diane) Arnold and nine grandchildren Darcey, Mark and Sarah Hormann; Beck (Elav) Anderson; Jana (Eric) Schaefer, Chris (Mat) Wibel; Martin (Carlyn) Hegg, Anita (Ronan) Redel and Melanie (Tyler) Hassett. Also cherishing her memory are her sisters Margaret Nernberg, Anne Triethart, Alma Zamzow and her brother Alfred Zimmer (Alma). Martha was predeceased by her husband Carl Theodore (Ted) Arnold in 2009, her brothers Emil and Joe and her sisters Elizabeth and Bertha. Martha was born November 4, 1921 to Albert and Mary Zimmer who farmed near Inglis, MB. Martha grew up learning to bake, cook, sew, garden and care for her younger siblings. Her needlework was exquisite and we still have many samples. She enjoyed school and loved to read to the family. In her youth, Martha made a life-long choice to serve God and her quiet faith has remained an extremely important part of her life. In her early 20s, Martha moved to Winnipeg and worked for a doctor and his family. Through friends in Winnipeg she met Ted, who was then a dashing Raleigh salesman. Married on May 24, 1947, they built their first house in Boissevain where Ted was employed as a hatchery manager. In 1949 Martha and Ted moved to Arborg, MB (Ted's home area) where, along with raising their family, they worked together to build and operate their own hatchery business and later a farming operation. Martha's garden produce, preserves, and cooking were legendary in our extended family and all who knew her will fondly remember her amazing hospitality. When Martha was young, she received a plaque from a friend with the saying "'Tis loving and giving that makes life worth living". That statement truly describes how Martha lived her life. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, Manitoba. Interment will follow in the Arborg Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Martha's memory can be made to Arborg Community Cemetery, c/o Kris Gudmundson, Box 713, Arborg, MB, R0C 0A0. Our mom and grandma will be greatly missed by her family and friends. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall 204 -467 -2525 mackhome@mts.net

To Linda, June, Diane, Jim and all the family. It is fond memories that I remember Martha from our stay in Arborg. We arrived in the summer of 1988 with our son Eoin at three months old. Linda very kindly minded him for us and the Heggs with Martha very much at the core took him into their family. It was always a pleasure to stop by, we had great times together, the children getting dressed up for Halloween and many more. Martha's rhubarb and strawberry compote was my all time favourite. She was a wonderful woman and I would like to extend my sympathies to you all. May she rest in peace. Lottie and Charlie - Posted by: Loretta & Charles Kenny (Friend & Neighbour) on: Apr 27, 2015

A dear sister, of many talents, the best cook, baker, and also singer. She was sweetness supreme to me as long as I can remember. I will miss her - but thank Our Lord that she went to her eternal rest so peacefully. - Posted by: Alma Z Zamzow (sister) on: Apr 25, 2015

To Martha's Family... I Wish to extend, My Deepest, and Most Heartfelt Sympathy in the loss of such a Dear lady. It has been a long time, but, way back in the late 70's/early 80's....My Husband & I got our Chicks from "Arnold's Hatchery", and recall what lovely Friendly Folk your Mom & Dad were. my Mother & Step Father, Lil & Bruce Gray were visiting us once when we went for chicks, and they came along with Us...They were so Happy to meet Ted & Martha, as they were" Friends"right away, and every time they came to visit us, they had to go & see Ted & Martha, and share a "meeting" or two with them. Bless you all, I'm sure there is a very "empty spot" in your Family Circle. Sincere Sympathy...Janet Jundt {Ashern, Manitoba} - Posted by: Janet JUndt (Aquaintance ) on: Apr 25, 2015
