ORVAL REFVIK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Orval Refvik on April 20, 2015 at the age of 82 years. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Orval passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital with his loving and devoted wife, Dolores, by his side. Orval will be missed and forever remembered by his wife and best friend Dolores, his son Brad (Clare), daughter Shelley (Trevor), and daughter-in-law Rhona. Grandpa is lovingly remembered by his seven grandchildren Shannon (Jasper), Shayla, Joel, Samantha, Ryan, Mira and Rebecca. Orval was predeceased by his son Eric. In lieu of flowers, donations in Orval's memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. According to his wishes cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date. A celebration of Orval's life will be held on Monday, April 27, 2:30 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. The wonderful Orval Refvik was my favourite teacher. He taught us novels and poetry carefully and caringly, and in a way that made the material interesting rather than drudgery. I had the privilege of visiting him at home a few times over the years with a friend and my dear wife. He was always kind and interesting, with a great sense of humour. I searched for him recently on the Internet but there was no trace. I saw a carving in a store earlier this week and I told the clerk, "That's my grade 12 English teacher!"
