HANNA FLETCHER January 22, 1921 - April 16, 2015 Shortly after a morning visit from her son, Hanna passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Hubert, son Edward and all of her siblings. She is survived by her son John (Irene), daughters Doreen and Cleo (Gordon), grandchildren Leah (Keith), Melanie, Phillip, Randy (Marlene), Robert, Timothy, Laura and Natasha (Mustafa), great-grandchildren Tyler (Jessica), Bryton, Brian, Brett, Jessica and Joshua, and great great-grandson Nathan. Born on the farm in southern Saskatchewan, Hanna lived through the "dirty thirties" as a child and was only able to attend school to grade eight. However she was very intelligent and enjoyed reading books and doing crossword puzzles, as well as keeping up with world events by reading the newspaper daily. Hanna married Hubert in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1942 where they lived until moving to Winnipeg in 1959. At first she didn't think she could ever get used to living in "such a big city" but a number of years later when visiting Moose Jaw she declared "how can anyone live in such a small place?" Family meant everything to "Grandma". She loved nothing better than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She even became a surrogate parent to her nieces and nephews when they lost their own mothers, receiving regular long distance telephone calls from many of them. Hanna's claim to fame was her baking. There was always something freshly baked to eat at her house and her butter tarts and buns were legendary. Maybe because she often went hungry as a child, Hanna loved to feed people. Even after serving a big supper and dessert at her house, she would immediately started passing out sweets and nuts and would feign disappointment when people wouldn't eat more. The family would like to thank Dr. Caners and the staff of the Concordia Hospital who took care of Hanna with kindness and compassion over the past few weeks. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Church, Munroe and Brazier (parking at 300 Donalda Avenue). Flowers are respectfully declined. Those who wish may make a donation to a charity of their choice.
