JOHN BOYLE December 18, 1925 - April 13, 2015 John was born in Troon, Scotland and served with the British Navy in the Second World War. After the war, John joined the baking profession becoming well known for his baking, cake decorating and enjoyed being an avid golfer. In 1967, John immigrated to Winnipeg and once again became known for his baking skills while with Canada Safeway as a Bakery Manager. His meat pies and bridies were much sought after at the Scottish Pavilion during Folklorama. His passion for golf never diminished so if you needed to find him, he would be on the course after work swinging his clubs. This passion did not stop even after he put away the clubs and he would often discuss how he should have played a hole at Elmhurst or other courses. His one regret was not being able to get a hole in one but as you listened to his stories, course records were broken during his golf years. John enjoyed talking to people and if you were a golf enthusiast, you be sure that many holes would be discussed and reviewed. John and Winona moved to Calgary in 2012 to live at a "5 star" seniors residence where they could enjoy life and be pampered accordingly. As his health started to fail, he settled into the Bethany Care Centre where he passed away. Thank you to those facilities and staff for their care and friendship. John is survived by his wife Winona (nee Campbell), children John, Val, Lynda, Graeme and Brian, brother William, their spouses/ significant others as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mari earlier this year. According to John's wishes, a private family service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My belated condolences to the Boyle family on the passing of your father. I first met John at River & Osborne store where I would go in for his meat pies. Later I started handling all the bakery hires and placement, we talked a lot of the phone, stores visits and golfing. I remember at bakery managers meetings when the bakers would kid each other as to who made the better products. John was proud of his Scotch shortbread and kidded Zip that he used lard in his. Sorry to see you go. Rest in Peace, God Bless. - Posted by: colin dederick (collague) on: Aug 21, 2022
