ELAINE ALTMAN Elaine passed away peacefully on April 1, 2015, with her husband and two daughters by her side and her loyal dog, Bigalow. Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Ian; devoted daughters, Alana and Emma; and brothers, Robert (Joy) and Michael (Jane). Elaine was born November 23, 1954 in Montreal to parents, Kathleen and Max Frank. Ian and Elaine moved to Winnipeg in 1979 and Elaine worked at Grinnell Corporation (now Flocor) for 35 years. Elaine was devoted to her family and friends. Along with ensuring our daughters were introduced to the joyous activities she enjoyed in her youth (camping, swimming, skating), she loved nothing better than entertaining for family and friends. These times were something everyone enjoyed given Elaine was a gourmet cook and great hostess. When Elaine became ill, she devoted her time to compiling her vast recipe collection into a marvelous cookbook titled "Treasures for my Daughters". Elaine also loved to travel and this continued well into her illness. Our travels together as a family hold some of the fondest memories we share in the wonderful life we all had with Elaine. Elaine was a strong and gracious woman who loved life to the fullest and generously gave of herself to family and friends. We loved her and sorely miss her. A very special thanks to our friends and colleagues who were so supportive of Elaine and the family as she courageously battled ALS. And thanks to the community agencies and staff and Trina. We also wish to express our deep gratitude to the amazing staff who work on Palliative Care at St. Boniface General Hospital. They ensured our last months with Elaine were special and enjoyed. Donations, if desired, may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, an organization that were always there to lend a hand.
