MICHAEL HOWARD DEVIAENE It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael at the Victoria General Hospital on the evening of Wednesday, April 22, 2015. On July 25, 1958 Michael was born to Stephen and Jeanne Deviaene. He was a beloved son, brother and uncle. He is survived by his parents; six siblings; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a large extended family. Michael lived a simple life, but he was not a simple man. His interests were many and his knowledge diverse. He was, in fact, very much a renaissance man who enjoyed photography, the beauty of nature and artistic human endeavors. Michael was a craftsman and made his living as a builder of fine, heirloom quality furniture. In September, 2014 Michael was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Over the past few months, he fought the disease stoically, stubbornly and rarely with a complaint. At Michael's request, there will be no service. For everyone who knew Michael, please take a few moments in your day to think of him. Surely, if there is a heaven he will be busy building benches (or futons) for everyone to sit on. I have fond memories of hanging out with the Deviaene brothers. Mike manufactured a 'one of a kind' coffee table for us - it's still with us and maintains a prominent place in our home. My sincerest condolences to the Deviaene Family. - Posted by: Ron Andrews (Boggs) (Friend) on: Dec 19, 2016

I will remember Mike for his bright, penetrating eyes as he surveyed his surroundings and took advantage of whatever made his life in high school enjoyable. - Posted by: John Fast (Teacher) on: Apr 30, 2015

So very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. My condolences to Lou and all Mike's family. I remember Mike from high school as a very intelligent, yet quiet kind soul; and a great athlete, watched many a basketball game where he always excelled. I think the last time I saw Mike was when I took my son out for Halloween in a bunny costume I had made for my 3 yr old, that would be 27 years ago, I think Mike said something witty, ha ha, and then "cute kid". You are in my thoughts and prayers friend. - Posted by: Jo-Ann Gusdal (Friend) on: Apr 29, 2015

I was a friend to some of the family members many years ago in Fort Garry before the family moved to Fort Richmond. I am very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you. - Posted by: Marian Bourget Lewis (Family friend) on: Apr 28, 2015

I am truly saddened to hear of Mikes passing. I met Mike at Fort Richmond Collegiate when we were about 12 years old. Many good times were had, and memories were built as we left our mark. Unfortunately, our group of friends dispersed as we ventured out to explore our grown up worlds, and I hadn't seen Mike in "many" years. So long my friend - one of the three "Mike-a-teers". Rest in peace. - Posted by: Mike Kloos (Kenora, Ont., Ajijic, Mexico) (Childhood Friend ) on: Apr 28, 2015

Sorry to hear about Mike's passing. Hadn't seen in him in many years. We played football with the Lions and grew up in Fort Richmond. He was always fun to be around and I will take time today to think about him and his family and friends. - Posted by: Rod McDonald (Friend) on: Apr 28, 2015
