Born: Dec 21, 1926
Date of Passing: May 02, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMALVINA SCHMIDT 1926 - 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Malvina Schmidt on May 2, 2015 at West Park Manor Personal Care Home. She is survived by her two daughters Carole (Richard) Martens and Irene (Bruce) Dearlove; her grandchildren Richelle (Matthew) Wendorf and Joel (Carrie) Martens; great-grandchildren Jordan, Jasmyn, Riley, Emily and Eric. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John in 1998. Malvina Redekop was born on December 21, 1926 at Davidson, Saskatchewan and spent her childhood in Glenbush, Saskatchewan. In 1946 she relocated to Morris, Manitoba with her mother and brother Dan Hildebrand. She married John Schmidt in 1947 and they made their home on a farm near the Roseau River near Arnaud. Floods in 1948 and 1950 created difficult farming conditions. She and John rented the farm and decided to move to Winnipeg in 1957. They purchased a house in the Wolseley area where they raised their two girls. Mom was an avid gardener and loved flowers. Her yard and home on Garfield Street became a showplace of ever blooming perennials, many of which she shared with family, friends and neighbours. Mom was an exceptionable cook. She was well known for her Christmas cake, butter tarts and homemade noodles. In 2002 Malvina moved to Bethel Place. Here she made many new friends and became part of a card group that played several times a week. She enjoyed volunteering in the South Oak Dining Room. Declining health required her to relocate to a personal care home in 2013. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford Street. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mom's favourite charity, Mennonite Central Committee, or a charity of your choice. The family would to thank all the staff who lovingly attended to Mom at West Park Manor Personal Care Home. A special thank you to Val and Al MacDonald for all of their caring and help with Mom over the years. The family would also like to thank Iris and Emily Sawchuk, John Hammett and Betty Letham for their friendship and support during Mom's stay at West Park Manor.

Returned to work from holiday today and heard of Malvina's passing. Condolences to Irene, Carole and family. Malvina was such a kind and gentle person, never complained, always helped others when they were in need of help. It was my privilege to look after Malvina when she was in my unit. She and her colorful socks will be missed. I will also miss seeing Irene for her daily visit. - Posted by: Sharon (unit nurse) on: May 16, 2015

Oh what a gracious grand lady we have lost. Malvina was a very special loving individual. Had the opportunity to get to know her when I worked at Bethel Place where she lived. Never once did Malvina go by my office without popping in with a cheery hello and having a giggle with me. Could always count on a big hug and smile when meeting her in the hallways. She was always caring and concerned for others. Even when Malivin's health was deteriorating she still gathered up dishes at the tables in South Oak Inn to help the staff and it was not an easy task for her at times..she always did it with a huge smile. Sincere condolences to Irene and Carole and your families...you were all so very important to her and she shared this many times over the years She will be missed Hugs Angie Stojke - Posted by: Angie Stojke (Friend) on: May 07, 2015

Carol, Irene and your families. Deepest sympathy in your loss. We have not had contact through the years but, you and your family are very much remembered. I remember visiting your home with my parents way back when you lived in Arnaud. Sorry would have liked to attend the funeral but have another commitment. - Posted by: Pat (Pearse) Gaetz (old family friend) on: May 06, 2015

I want tell you how much Malvina meant to me. My parents moved into Bethel Place as well and we visited (and still do) there often. Malvina was a part of the same group of friends that my parents joined. Her unconditional love and care for me and my children was amazing. She was always ready with a hug, always asking about our days, making sure to address each one of us and make us feel special. Always genuinely engaging and needing to know we were okay. Our partings we always with a hug and a reminder that she loved us very much. She was such an amazing woman and we were blessed to have been able to know each other. Thank you for sharing a small part of her with us. She will be missed, but heaven is so blessed to have her! - Posted by: Kim Peters ((Mary's daughter - Bethel Place)) on: May 06, 2015
