KAREN J. WERESTIUK January 21, 1925 - May 1, 2015 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, amma and lang amma, Karen Werestiuk, who peacefully passed away on May 1, 2015 at the Betel Home in Gimli with family at her side. Karen leaves to mourn her loving children Eileen (Gordon), Janet (Laurence), Carol (George) and Peter; grandchildren Candice, Christopher (Kyla), Daniel (Betty Anne), Steven, Jamie (Casandra), Tracy, Colleen; four great-granddaughters Ive, Emmalee, Alaska and Jessica and great-grandsons Dirk, Nathaniel, Eric and Imriel; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Karen was predeceased by her parents Indridi and Jona Bjorg Arnason; her husband Peter Werestiuk; brothers Athalgeir and Sigurjon Alli; sisters Helga, Sigurbjorg, Dorothy, and Helga Sigurbjorg. Karen was born on Hecla Island and then moved to Riverton and then to Gimli where she resided the rest of her life. In her early years she had a variety of jobs and worked her last 26 and a half years prior to retirement at Betel Home. While at Betel she became a nurses aide which was very rewarding to her because she was a natural care giver. Her greatest joy was being at home with family. She enjoyed sewing and knitting for her children. She also loved gardening, singing, reading and playing cards and board games with the family. Special thanks to Dr. R.C. Patel and staff at Gimli Betel Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor Les Skonnord officiating. A viewing will be held prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Gimli Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Laurence Isfeld, Daniel Isfeld, Steven Isfeld, Christopher Dalman, Jamie Isfeld and Nathaniel Isfeld. Honourary pallbearers are Gordon Dalman and George Vincent. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
