Born: Oct 22, 1929
Date of Passing: May 04, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLEN (BLACKIE) SUTHERLAND Binesii Aanakwad (Thunder Cloud) "Mayor of Beaver Creek" Allen Sutherland of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away at the Southeast Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, MB, on Monday May 4, 2015 at the age of 85. Allen was born at Sandy Bay First Nation on October 22, 1929 to Laurent Sutherland and Veronique Aveline Beaulieu. Allen married Anna Helgason April 9, 1988 in Winnipeg; they lived together and had their happiest times at their cottage at Beavercreek, Manitoba. Allen lost Anna in May 1, 2014. Allen had a large family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him. Once he learned how to play the guitar as a teenager, he was always sought after for his singing, guitar and fiddle playing throughout his life. Entertaining people by his singing, telling jokes and storytelling came so easily to him. He became so well known in the 70's inner core of Winnipeg's watering holes as 'Blackie and the Tomahawks.' Many of his family and friends would always talk about their memories of him growing up on Allen's music, such as "We are not kids anymore", "Are you mine", "Pistol packin' mama", just to name a few. Allen will be missed by so many. "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!" Psalm 100:1-2 Memorial service will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. from Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. We have been acquainted with Al and Anna since they moved to Beaver Creek.Their home as always open to whom ever stopped by, they were always welcoming and treated us like family. Always ready with 5 gallons of gas if you needed it to make it into town, "Drop it off on your way back", Al would say. Our condolences to the family, we never drive by the cottage without thinking of them, it was a pleasure to have known them both. - Posted by: Shelley & Donnie (friends) on: May 10, 2015

Your father/grandfather was a very kind and loving man. He always had a smile on his face. Allen never had any complaints even when he was in pain he did not want to bother anyone. It was my pleasure these past 6 months to have the chance to meet him and help with his care. He will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Angela Harper (One of the nurses that took care of him) on: May 09, 2015
