WALTER MILLER April 23, 1930 - May 4, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Sherwood Miller, age 85, of Matlock, MB on May 4, 2015. He was a loving husband of 50 years to Donna (Lowery) and a wonderful father to their four children, Christine (Scott), Colleen (Jack), Christopher (Penny), Craig (Cari). Also remembering happy times with their grandfather are Scottie, Luke, Claire, Jack, Grace, Tai, Jet, Aubrie, and Ashton. Walter was an older brother to Allen (Sue) and Eleanor (Tom). Born and raised in Stratford, Ontario to Lucy and Walter, he then left at age 17 to join the RCAF for five years. In 1954, Walter then began a 60 year career as a life insurance agent in Winnipeg with New York Life and later with Canada Life. Winters were spent with his wife Donna and many friends on the island of Maui for the past 20 years where they were both active members in the Keawala'i Congregational Church choir. Walter enjoyed playing tennis or golf five days a week up until February 2015. Summers were spent in his home of 47 years in Matlock where he enjoyed lake life to the fullest with his family. Walter leaves an exceptional legacy of service to his community having served as mayor of the Village of Dunnottar for 18 years as well as a strong voice of progressive change for many years afterward. He demonstrated an impressive commitment to his work, both in local politics as well as in his professional career. Above all, he was a loyal and faithful man who was truly dedicated to his family and those he loved. Those fortunate enough to have known him can attest to the strength of his lifelong optimism, his devout faith in God, and his abundant hope and good humour. He had a warm smile for everyone, and was a constant, positive force in this world. Walter's greatest accomplishment was not any single thing. It was the full collection of his simplest acts as well as his grandest deeds. His life was his greatest achievement. Walter was an extraordinary man and we are all fortunate to have his enduring legacy live through us. Memorial service to be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Winnipeg Inner City Missions, A Place of Hope, 415 Logan Ave., Winnipeg. MB R3A 0A4 or Faith Bible Camp in Victoria Beach, MB at PO Box 42059 Ferry Road, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3X7.
