MARY EILEEN DOIG
Born: Jul 19, 1921
Date of Passing: May 05, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY EILEEN DOIG On May 5, 2015, the door opened and Mary Eileen Doig took the hand offered and embarked on a new journey. Eileen was born July 19, 1921 in Fort William, Ontario to Agnus and Mary Fitzgerald. She travelled extensively on trains with her parents and subsequently was raised and schooled in Winnipeg at St. Mary's Academy. On a blind date she met her future husband "Georgie Boy", the man in the sailor suit. They were married in February, 1945. They lived in the West End of Winnipeg where they raised their children George (Sandi), Jack, Debbie (Paul). During that time they had an active social life with ties to the Civic Caledonia Curling Club, bowling, dancing and was active in Scottish organizations. In the mid 60's, she returned to school and worked as a Registered Nursing Assistant until her retirement at the age of 65. Eileen managed to juggle her family life, her full time work life and spent time with her grandchildren Michael, Jennifer, Donalee, Robert and Ian. After retirement she volunteered more than 7000 hours at Health Sciences Centre until the time of her hospitalization, November 2014. Her membership in the "Road Runner Club" allowed her to organize events bringing pleasure to herself and many of her friends. Eileen was very proud of her family and as her great-grandchildren arrived, of which there were ten, they were her greatest source of pleasure. Mom taught us to love life, respect ourselves and others and to have the courage to face life's challenges and for that we are eternally grateful. Thanks, Mom. Thank you to Deer Lodge Palliative Care Unit for their outstanding care and compassion during Mom's stay. We would also like to thank her dearest friends for their visits, especially Winston and his chicken soup that always brightened her day. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Memorial service will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Love George, Jack, Debbie and family Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Dearest Debbie, George and Jack, I'm sorry to hear about Auntie Eileen's passing. I know this is such a difficult time for you and your families. I came across a picture of Mom and Dad with Uncle George and Auntie Eileen and many of their friends at a party. I think it was mom and dad's wedding day. They were having such a good time at the party they forgot to go and get their wedding pictures taken. They were all so young and happy in the picture! Of course, Auntie Eileen was so beautiful as shown in her wedding picture. So, many good times we had on Toronto Street! May you find comfort in remembering and reminiscing the many wonderful memories you made together. Love, Jan & Bill xoxo - Posted by: Janice Harrison (cousin ) on: May 13, 2015

I remember Eileen standing in the hallway at HSC as a greeter in her later years. She was always friendly and cheerful which is a great asset when folks are lost, confused and stressed trying to find out where to go in a place like HSC. Her smile always brightened my day! - Posted by: Laureen Brookes (Friend of Debbie Doig) on: May 11, 2015
