PATRICIA MARY DYCK On a warm spring morning, Sunday, May 3, 2015 Patricia Dyck (nee Ferguson, nee Hodge) died. Patricia is survived by her children Brian (Alice), Ron (Sherry), Terry (Joanne), and Rex (Bonnie); grandchildren Jennie-Lee, Robert, Rhianna, Zachary, Bridget, Ezekiel; great-grandchild Raven; and her brother John (Trudy). She was predeceased by her husband Jake, parents Florence and George, as well as her siblings George, Kay and Geoffrey. Born in 1934, our mum was born and lived in Liverpool, England. She and her brothers were evacuated from Liverpool as children in Operation Pied Piper; during this time she met Laura Williams who acted as a foster parent and whom Mum managed to reconnect with in her later years. As a young adult she married Jack Ferguson and her sons Brian and Ron were born while they lived in Chester. They came to Canada in 1960 and moved to Grande Prairie, AB were Terry was born and then settled in Winnipeg, MB where Rex was born. Mum will be remembered for her ability to overcome adversity and be creative at the same time. From our early days she would make our clothes - sewing and knitting. She taught piano out of her home until moving to Oakbank where our father and her built the home of their dreams. All this came to an end abruptly. Our mum rose to the occasion of raising her sons alone by moving to Winnipeg and going to work. She was employed by Canada Post in 1971 and then worked in various government positions until retirement in 1997. She married Jake Dyck in 1987, lived in St. Vital and made a happy life together until his death in 2007. Mum moved to Sinawik Bay, joined a writing group from St. James Seniors Centre and gathered more friends in these years, going for tea and even travelling Canada together. Her utmost focus was always on her four sons and their growing families; imparting a love of reading, music, current events, and creativity. Mum died in Riverview Health Centre after living with mesothelioma, surrounded by her family. We thank the team at Riverview 3E for their care and support of our mum.
