DARLENE ROSE HARGREAVES (nee SOSNOSKI) November 24, 1948 - May 7, 2015 Darlene Rose Hargreaves (nee Sosnoski) slipped away with her family at her side on Thursday, May 7, after a fast and devastating battle with cancer. Darlene was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on November 24, 1948 to Frank and Jessie Sosnoski (nee Bencharski). She was known for both her beauty and her brains. She received her early education in Dauphin, then attended Brandon University and became a teacher. Darlene's students still remember her as a favourite and recently, a few of them reached out to say so. In 1967, she married her first husband, Ed Motkaluk. They lived in Ochre River, then Dauphin and Selkirk before moving to their dream house in Winnipeg. Darlene was mother to Twyla (Vince), Susan (Mike), Cheryl (deceased), Jennifer (Trevor), Mary and Marcie (both deceased), John (Paula), Robert, and Greg (Morgan). Their life together was not the one they had hoped for and eventually, after 16 years, they parted ways. It was, and always remained, a difficult transition for the whole family. This new complicated situation strengthened all of them and opened a door to a new chapter in Darlene's life. In 1986, Darlene married Glen Hargreaves. They were devoted to each other and they built a lovely new life for themselves. She became stepmother to John (Caroline), Debbie (Dwayne) and Mike (Abby). Darlene and Glen moved to Arnes, Manitoba, where they owned and operated Jad's General Mart. Darlene's thoughtful way of doing business endeared her to the community and served them well for many years. Darlene loved the store and worked hard at making sure that Jad's had every single thing a person might need or want. Because of her, Arnes had a gas station with a post office, movies, a deli, a bakery, ice cream and an incredible candy aisle. Over the years, Darlene did everything she could manage to stay connected to her children. Time marched on, and when her children had children of their own, she immersed herself into the task of becoming the most dedicated and wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother to 15 little souls who love her with all their hearts. Serena Gatti, Mack Gatti, Luke Motkaluk, Robert McCartney, Katelynn Motkaluk, Thomas Motkaluk, Emily Sprague, Tyler Motkaluk, Cash McCartney, Soley and Paul Motkaluk, Cory Hargreaves, Amanda Hargreaves and the two great-grandchildren, Seth Hargreaves and Jaxon Hargreaves. Gimli Grandma will live forever through the stories they will tell about her while they are tucked under the piles of blankets she crocheted. For her "retirement", Darlene threw herself into a real estate career, and was an award-winning member of the Interlake Realty team. Darlene was an active member of Saint Michael's Church, in Gimli, Manitoba. Her cheerful and encouraging words will be deeply missed by many. She was a beloved sister to Gail Ficzycz who will miss her dearly and chose these comforting words: May the songs of the angels welcome you, And guide you along your way. May the smiles of the martyrs greet their own, As darkness turns into day. Every tear will be undone and death shall be no more. As the songs of the angels welcome her, To her heavenly home. Darlene was predeceased by her infant children, parents and her brother Ken. Prayers will be held Wednesday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Michael's Church in Gimli, Manitoba. Funeral services for Darlene will be held on Thursday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Michael's Church in Gimli, Manitoba. Darlene would like flowers, her middle name was Rose, and she leaves us with her famous quote "You'll be fine".
