MARY KOSTYK (nee STECKY) On May 4, 2015 after a brief but brave battle with cancer Mary passed away peacefully at the age of 86. Mary is survived by her devoted husband John, of 56 years, her children Glen (Debra), Janet (Ray) and Alan, her grandchildren Thomas, Bethany, Ehren, Ayden and Aaron, sisters Helen, Kay, Ollie and Lena, and brother Ron. She was predeceased by her parents John and Annie Stecky (nee Tymofichuk), brothers Nick, Peter and Matt, and sister Elsie. Mom was born on December 19, 1928 at Zhoda, Manitoba, where she grew up with her family on a farm along the Rat River. She moved to Winnipeg at an early age and worked at several jobs, including Federal Grain where she met Dad, who she married in 1958. Mom took an immense pride in raising her children and later in life being a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren. Her baking was superb and she would ensure that visiting grandchildren always received an ample fill of cookies and cinnamon twists, along with her warm and loving hugs. The family would like to thank Dr. K. Lage, Dr. G. Harris and the nurses, health care aides and housekeepers of N3E unit at the Concordia Hospital. A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Mary to any CancerCare organization would be greatly appreciated by the family.
