PROFESSOR JOHN EMMETT MULVANEY June 17, 1920 - May 11, 2015 Emmett Mulvaney passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 94 with his daughters by his side. Emmett is survived by his children, Emmett (Gayle), Barbara and Susan, his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer, and his many loving nieces and nephews. He will also be well remembered by countless students. Emmett was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Margaret, his wives, Margaret and Anne, and his sisters, Donnie and Catherine (aka Biddy). The latter half of Emmett's life was devoted to learning and teaching. He was a gifted professor of Economics, Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Winnipeg for over 35 years. However, the defining period of his life was serving in the Canadian Navy for six years during The Second World War. He volunteered with great pride and courage to serve a greater good. This need to serve the greater good was the foundation of his lifelong character. Emmett was raised in Kenora, Ontario, an idyllic setting, where he learned so much about the flora and fauna of the Canadian wilderness. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to tell stories of his experiences in the many geographic areas of Canada in which he lived. The family wishes to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for their compassion and loving care. Donations in Emmett's memory may be made to The Alzheimer's Society of Canada. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Please contact Barbara Mulvaney at 204-943-2707 for details.
