WOON KING (KAY) ENG (nee CHAN) January 20, 1925 May 14, 2015 Peacefully and gently Kay passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Pembina Place Personal Care Home at the age of 90 years. Left to cherish Kay's memory are her daughter Jean (Harry) Mah; grandchildren Mei-Ling (Fletcher) Noonan and Landon (Kristina); great-grandchildren Wyeth, Nevyn, Toby and Emily; and numerous nephews; nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Yip Cheung in 1976; her parents and two brothers of Hong Kong, China. Kay immigrated to Canada as a newlywed bride in 1950 to rural Saskatchewan where she owned a restaurant with her husband. There, her only daughter Jean was born. Kay was beloved by the folks of small town Wawota, who collectively taught her how to speak English. In 1963 the family moved to Regina where she worked at Eaton's for 18 years until her retirement. In 1990 Kay moved to Winnipeg and took great pleasure in spending quality family time with her grandchildren. She loved cooking and hosted many Chinese dinners in her new apartment. There was always a care package for everyone to take home afterwards. A reception to celebrate Kay's life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Kum Koon Garden, 257 King Street, Winnipeg. Interment will follow in Regina at a later date. The Family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate staff at Pembina Place Personal Care Home for taking such good care of Kay on a daily basis and at the end of her life.
