KAREN SUSAN DELISLE
Born: Dec 23, 1957
Date of Passing: May 25, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAREN SUSAN DELISLE (nee KAMINESKI) December 23, 1957 - May 25, 2015 Karen passed away peacefully after a hard fought battle on Monday, May 25, at Health Sciences Centre with the support and comfort of her family. Karen was 57 years old. Left to remember and celebrate her life are her husband Don; her two daughters Michelle (Nick) and Christine (Jocke); her grandson Tanner; her mother Irene; her sister Carol; and her two grandpuppies Mikka and Sydney. Karen was born in Saskatoon and moved to Winnipeg during her junior high school years. She spent many summers at Waskesiu, Saskatchewan, where she honed her speed swimming skills. Her father, Walter, woke up bright and early to ensure she made her morning swim practices as Karen went on to compete for several years. In Winnipeg, Karen met the love of her life, Don, during a curling bonspiel. The two were married on May 5, 1979 and it might be said that the couple's first dance at their wedding was not nearly as memorable as Karen's table top choreography to "Raise a Little Hell". Karen attended Red River College and became a dental assistant, and dedicated herself to making everyone smile. Karen was a devoted mother, and enjoyed nothing more than watching her two daughters on the ice for ringette and hockey, the gym for volleyball and team handball, as well as the ball field. She was always the first to make sure both girls were brought back to reality when sports were put ahead of schoolwork, and spent countless hours helping them with everything from spelling to flashcards to science projects. Karen spent her summers down at the family cottage at Ingolf, Ontario, and would often disappear to her favourite spot behind the boathouse to enjoy a book or watch the sunset. In the year she turned 50, she accomplished her goal of swimming the length of Long Pine Lake. To borrow the words from the book "Love You Forever", that Karen used to read her two daughters, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living my Mommy you'll be." - Robert Munsch The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses, Doctors and support staff at both Grace Hospital and the Health Sciences Center who went out of their way to take care of Karen. In keeping with Karen's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Winnipeg's Grace Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. Don, please accept my late condolences to you and your family - as I just heard of Karen's death. I lost touch with Karen many years ago after leaving Winnipeg for Guelph, ON. She was my constant friend through high school, and Young Life days though, and I was honoured to have her in my wedding party. The most special memory I have of Karen was the day my dad died, and her sensitive, caring and heartfelt response to me in my shock and grief. She was a beautiful woman in so many ways. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. And I wish you peace. - Posted by: Sue mcginnis (Friend) on: Jun 13, 2015

So sorry for your loss. The memories of meals in Saskatoon with your family still linger. The fun we had at Waskesiu with Gertie supposedly supervising are still fresh and the water is still cold. Take care. - Posted by: don cranch (cousin) on: Jun 05, 2015

Don, Michelle, Chris and Tanner - we are so very sorry for your loss. Your tribute to Karen was beautiful and had me crying and laughing at the same time as I pictured Karen dancing to "Raise a little Hell". Sunil, Shaun, Sydney and I were so fortunate to have had Karen in our lives and call her our friend. She was kind, caring and beautiful in every way. We will miss her. What a beautiful obituary. Karen truly sounds like a wonderful woman. Don, I only know you through work and the meetings we have once or twice a year but I don't think we ever had a meeting when you didn't talk about your family at some point. I could tell that you were all very close. I know you will miss Karen a lot. My thoughts are with you and your family during this very difficult time. - Posted by: Susan Love () on: May 27, 2015

So sorry to hear of Karen's passing. She always had a great smile and was truly dedicated to her children and her job. She helped maintain our "smiles" for some time during her days at Sturgeon Creek Dental. Our condolences. - Posted by: Deney Wojtowicz (Crestview School Parent Council member) on: May 27, 2015
