Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR WILLIAM WOOD 1918 - 2015 After a brief hospitalization, Arthur William Wood, 96, of Edmonton, formerly of Winnipeg, at Grandview Nursing Home, on May 18, 2015. Dr. Wood taught Agricultural Economics at U. of Manitoba for 28 years and retired to Edmonton 28 years ago. Predeceased by all seven siblings, two grandsons, and son Craig. Born in Neepawa, MB, to Thos. Wm. and Mary Wood of Cordova, Art farmed and held a wide variety of jobs in the 1930s, from logging in BC, to service in the posh hotels of London, UK. Art enlisted in the RCAF, was commissioned as an officer in 1941, and married Alison Craig in 1942. He served on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, and the family began in 1943. Post-war, Art farmed and commuted to Regina College, where a distinguished academic career began. With two more sons and three degrees from U. of Saskatchewan by 1952, the family moved to Stanford, California, where Art received the PhD in 1956. Dr. Wood taught in, and for several years served as head of the Dept. of Ag. Econ. at U. of Manitoba. His contributions to the field of agricultural marketing were manifold. The highest civilian honour in Manitoba, the Order of the Buffalo Hunt, inducted him in 1961. Full professorship soon followed. An agrologist of distinction, and very active on the CAUT executive, he served with the MIA and on numerous marketing boards, including Freshwater Fisheries. Survived by Sheila White, his partner of 28 years, daughter-in-law Jan Ungerer-Wood of Lethbridge, her three children and six grandchildren, son Dennis of Morden, his three children and two grandchildren, and son Ron and wife Janice, their three children and two grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Private family memorials are planned for the summer.
