LEO ALFRED FINK It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad/Opa on May 13, 2015. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Doris, parents Martha and Leopold, and brother Alfred. He was born and met the love of his life Doris in Graz, Austria. He followed Doris to Calgary in 1952 and they married in 1953. After being blessed with three lovely daughters, they moved to Winnipeg in 1963. Our Dad was an active member of the community, volunteering his services as president of the Winakwa Community Club and coaching soccer, baseball, bowling, and curling. He enjoyed many activities, especially chess, soccer, golf, curling, gardening and fishing, and was an exceptional cook. He thoroughly enjoyed working for James Richardson and Sons, and retired after 32 years of service. In his retirement years he enjoyed travelling with our Mom to their favorite travel destinations: Victoria, Hawaii, and Austria. Unfortunately, Dad passed away unexpectedly while visiting friends in Germany. Dad was a devoted husband and father. He was always by Mom's side during her many years of illness and very involved in his daughters' and grandchildren's lives. He was a wealth of knowledge and always thought outside the box. He was our mentor and was always there for us when we needed him. Always being a great listener, he provided us with guidance and patience. He was a proud man with integrity, very kind and generous. He will be sorrowfully missed by his three daughters, Rosemary; Dagmar Carrick, her husband David, grandchildren Kristi, her husband Beau, Curtis, Kaeleigh and their dog Kokanee; Monica Grover, her husband Brent, granddaughter Leanne and their dog Cinnamon. A private family prayer service will be held. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Dad/Opa, you will be in our hearts and thoughts forever. Viele Bussi. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Met Leo many years ago as a "futures trading" student with Richardson Securities in Toronto. That was back in 1971 or so and I haven't forgotten him. RIP Leo! Best wishes to the family. - Posted by: Peter H Oliver (Student) on: Nov 04, 2015

  • We enjoyed talking with Leo and Doris as neighbours on a variety of subjects, including family, travel in Canada and in Europe. He had a great sense of humor which he shared frequently with us. He told us about his classmates from high school, which were about twenty in number when he left Graz for Canada, and which had diminished to a very few in recent years. He told us about his first job in Canada which was working in the dininig car for the C P Railway on the cross country passenger trains. It was eveident that he enjoyed his career with James Richardson, and with James Richrdson and sons Investments. He often spoke lovingly of his daughters and grandchildren. His pride in his home and yard was highly evident. - Posted by: Dale and Sandra Grevstad (Next door Neighbours for 43 years) on: Jun 01, 2015
