When I tell people of my life as an immigrant to Canada, the first thing I mention is Guenther as he helped me and my parents to find a job in Winnipeg. As a volunteer from the Lutheran church on Ellice Avenue, he came to visit newcomers at the Immegration place on Higgens. One Sunday he picked me up for an outing to meet young people from the church. It was so much fun making new friends. Being 16 and knew everything (I guess everybody been there) I forgot to be back before 10 pm. Glad Guenther spoke English and problem was solved. I also remember him being involved at the German Club and Camp Neustadt. One Sunday afternoon he got everybody involved to pick up stones for the future soccer field. His saying was: nicht immer nur rum sitzen ihr Frauen Mal ran hier. We all helped and many projects were completed and we thank him for that. We all miss him. Dear Mrs. Sickert, my sincere condolences to you. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Your husband was a very well liked and very well known gentleman especially in the German community of Winnipeg. To have lost your husband is very sad for you and the entire community. - Posted by: Doris Tonn (Dr. Schludermann's former medical secretary) (Acquaintance) on: Jun 01, 2015
