GEOFFREY ROBERT DEANE
Date of Passing: Jun 04, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEOFFREY ROBERT DEANE It is with pain in our hearts that we say goodbye to a dear son, brother, uncle, husband and friend, Geoff Deane, who passed away on June 4, 2015 in St. Boniface Hospital after a long illness. In Winnipeg, Geoff leaves behind loving members of his family: his mother, Freda Deane, his brother Lawrence, his nieces Sarra and Leah (Jose) and his great nephew Kushaal. In Toronto, he leaves behind his beloved former wife Anna, and his numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces, who were all such a big part of his life. Geoff will be very sadly missed by family and friends in Winnipeg, Toronto, in the UK, and in the USA. Special thanks to Leah and Lawrie and family for all their dedication and efforts in helping Geoff throughout his difficulties and illness these past few years. Geoff was born and grew up in Winnipeg. But he fell in love with England from early trips there with his family, his mother having been a war-bride. Later, after graduating from high school, the call of the swinging 60s and British music drew him to London. Prior to his second trip to England he met Anna in Toronto and began a partnership/marriage that was to last 33 years. After a period of travel they settled in England, where Geoff found work as a publicist in the rock'n'roll business that meant so much to him. After several years in England they returned to Toronto where Geoff invested in the real estate and worked as a travel writer which took him to many parts of the world. Geoff was friendly and gregarious, admired by family and friends for his love of life, his tremendous energy and his passion for adventure. He had a great sense of humour and a huge appetite, aided by his Italian mother-in-law. He loved cats, he loved parties and mixing with people. He loved his garden. His most precious possession was his record album collection, amassed over the years, and that went back and forth across the Atlantic several times. Geoff spent the last decade of his life partly in England and partly in Winnipeg. While here, his spirit never stopped yearning for England. Perhaps his spirit is soaring high above that beloved land. Rest in peace, dear Geoff. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 12 at The Victoria Inn, Embassy Room, 1808 Wellington Ave. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to a charity of your choice.
